I need new leafspring bushings and shackles for my '70, and I live near a National Parts Depot and was wondering if their sets for early mustangs will work for mavericks? (this means poly-bushings without ordering and waiting!) also I have the aftermarket 4-leafs from JC Whitney if that matters.

Mavericks and Mustangs have different outside diameter bushings. Decades ago I did the same thing, JCW 4-leafs and wanted poly bushings (which I came to hate due to the noise). At that time Maverick poly bushings weren't available so I bought the Mustang pieces and turned them down in a lathe. Todays bushing materials are so much better than the rubber parts that were available 40 years ago, I would just get replacement stock Maverick bushings.

thanks for the info you just saved me some unnecessary work. I guess I'll check the local parts stores for stock bushings. hopefully they can get me the shackles too, when I ordered my leafs I bought shackles with them but they got back ordered and eventually they refunded me the cost because they never came in.

I made my own shackles out of flat steel stock and some grade 8 bolts welded to one side of each shackle. Made them about 3/4 inch longer than stock.

my car has had home made shackles on it since i bought it, but they're not welded though. I should probally just weld it myself like you said and see how it works (dont know why hadn't allready thought of that!)
