I currently have an FMX transmission that I have been told will need a rebuild by fall. I entered my first car show with this car last night and won a trophy (YaY!) but pulling out of the parking lot it wouldn't go into reverse. We went to dinner with a couple of guys we met and when leaving the restaurant it wouldn't go into drive either.

This is making me VERY nervous.

It's got a Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter that has been VERY hard to shift lately. Its to the point where it feels like its going to completely snap when I pull it up and back. I have to use both hands to pull it back - not smooth at all.

I was pondering doing a manual swap but was told that a lot more things would have to be swapped and installed that I should just stay with the automatic. My friend told me that I should get a "manual-shift automatic valve body" for the current transmission along with a rebuild kit and that should solve my problem. I've also read on here that FMX trannies are hard to get parts for. Is it even possible to get a rebuild kit for it?

    Suggestions? Advice?

Have to wonder is your problem with the shifter or the transmission. I would disconnect the cable at the trans and see if the shifter is moving freely. Could have a bad cable.

That's what I'm hoping.... that would be a much easier fix.

    I'll keep you posted :)

    Thanks for the reply!
