I was out inspecting the floor today in more detail. I peeled up all the original insulation and up under the pedals it rusted through in about a 5X6 in area it rusted through in the same area on the passenger side too. My first thought was "damn, My cowl vents must be rusted through" so I checked them...thoroughly I ran the hose on high on 'em for like five minutes each, no leakage in the cab a little leaf cloggage (any suggestions how to clean the vents without wasting a ton of water?). Then I noticed some rust under the seam sealer too :16suspect so naturally I went mad scraping that away too found it under the seam sealer on both sides of the car but the driver's was a little worse. If my cowl vents aren't leaking through then how on earth did all this rust get here? The rest of my floorpans seem pretty solid just some surface rust I'll get the wire wheel out tomorrow just to be sure .

    Windshield leaking? Leaking heater core?

Or it sat really close to ground for a long period of time, and rusted in from below.

my windshield rubber split out of the blue one day and filled the floor up in one afternoon thunderstorm. It doesn't take much water to rust it out or just get it started.

My guess is the windshield gasket. That's what happened to my Sprint. Cowls were fine.:)

Here is where I found my leaking windshield seal. It's not easy to get to without removing the defrost vent.

I'm having the same problem now as well. I had the windshield re-installed and it leaks even more now. The windshield actually started cracking this weekend (during the BIG car show!) and the guy is getting another windshield for me. The only thing he can think of is that the gasket may have a pinhole or two in it. Its got my glass guy stumped.

    Good luck

I might be wrong but a pin hole in the weather stripping should not cause a windshield to crack. If the glass was chipped when installing it then I can see this causing a crack to run.

A pinhole in the weatherstripping would be a reason for the windshield to leak even more than it was before I brought it to him. It was leaking on the passenger side going in and now passenger and driver sides when it came out. I was told the crack looks like a stress crack. I got the car back from him 2 weeks ago. He is charging me for another windshield... fine. But if it happens again he better not charge.

BTW - the closest windshield was 6 hours away in Philadelphia.... I hope none of you need one anytime soon - they are hard to come by! :( $200 later...

Ok so it seems like it has rusted through under some of my seam sealer. Does that indicate that it's rusting through from the bottom? How do I get off the rust on the underside most of it seems to just be surface rust but since it's rusted through. My first thought is to sandblast? but what type of abrasive would I use?
