I did something dumb today and i'm sure i'm not the only one who's done it or something else dumb. I was heading to a small car show (won survivor trophy ) and I stopped to get gas. So I set the cap on my bumber and start pumping and a guy starts talking to me about the car and asking questions. I finish pumping and put the hose back while we're still talking and once we're done chatting I hop in and drive off. Oops forgot to put the gas cap back on! :brick: I start thinking about a mile or two down the road hmm I don't remember putting the cap back on did I while we were talking and just forget? So I pull over and sure enough no cap. I start to over and over and begin driving back to the gas station. Walk in and ask if anyone turned it in.... nope... but luckily there's a happy ending to the story. I had taken a left out of the parking lot onto the street and luckily I found the cap had rolled over the curb and into the grass where it was safe and sound So how many times has this happened to someone else?
I need to put a cable on it for sure so I don't do it again or have someone walk off with it while i'm not around.
Whew! I thought for sure you were headed in the 'I drove off with the nozzle still in the car' direction. Glad it all worked out!
In my teen years i lost 2 standard maverick caps and one deluxe cap that way. back then they werent so hard to find so i wasnt as paranoid about it as i am now. Now i have one of those custom billet caps from ebay with the maverick logo. and i triple check it to make sure i put it on nowdays.
While getting my 84 year old Mom into my Escort, I set my cell phone on the roof of the car. Left the parking lot turning left, drove 1/2 mile at 40mph, turned right, drove another 1/2 mile at 40 then herd a noise, saw my phone bonce off the trunk and onto the left lane in my rear view mirror!! I turned around got my phone back, no one ran over it. It still works just a couple little nicks. It was one of those days!!
I had a '94 Nissan Sentra 12 years ago. I changed the oil and forgot to put the oil cap back on, because I got an urgent phone call. I reached my destination about 9 miles away. I popped the hood and found the oil cap nestled down on the intake manifold, and oil was blown all over the underside of the hood. Lost about 1/4 quart in 9 miles.
Been there ...Done that. Funny thing I saw. I was driving down the freeway last month when a semi went past me with the fuel nozzle still sticking out of his right side fuel tank. I stopped him as his fuel cap was still sitting on the tank.
No thankfully I've never even came close to doing that one. I don't really know how that could happen let alone without you at least noticing or hearing something as you're pulling away from the pump that would be terrible
I have no clue where my cap is right now. I took it off the car to take a picture and somehow I lost it. I'm just going to break down and buy one of these: But i'm going to incorporate an electronic locking feature, like the new cars have.
