Me either. Darren, at least it is a good shot of your car and a good looking car it is, cool vid with some nice cars/trucks, thanks for sharing.
I see no debate here at all. Ward and I agree on virtually 95% of all this. I don't think anybody said a stock Maverick is worth more $$$ than a modified Maverick. It all depends on what the BUYER wants. If a buyer comes on here and says they want a stock Sprint, then posts an ebay auction wanting our expert opinion about a Sprint...it is pretty fair of anybody to point out: "Hey....that Sprint is far from stock. probably not what you are looking for."
I decided i dont care what other people think, thats why i just come here to read now days and rarely post anything!
Dang it Ray, are you trying to start crap? I don't see how in world you can agree with that guy, I mean really that guy of all people?
I have the worlds only existing, all original, Maverick Grabber GT. Its just the way I like it... for now. :16suspect It started its life as an all original V8 Grabber. It needed a lot of help to get it the way it is now and I would have done it any other way.
I love to look at modified mavericks, original mavericks, rust free and rusty mavericks. I like all mavericks and the only person anyone has to make happy is themselves when it comes to how to build a car. In all honesty if your worried about resale then Mavericks are probably not the car to build. We all end up putting way more money in them than we will most likely ever be able to get out of them. I don't care how you build your maverick just build it baby!!!! Jerry
I am having fun with not only trying to clone one, but to convince people that they actually existed to begin with. I have to agree with # 20 also!
I have seen some awesome mavericks from here and other places. I for one like the original cars, or as close to as possible. Some things just can't be replaced back to stock very easy. Like oil filter, starter, and that type of stuff. And rims don't mean anything to me either. Most came with just plain jane. But if it has the original drive train, most of the interior is correct, and original body color. To me that is like going back into time. For modified cars, it shows that people can take a car and make something great out of it, and enjoy the car. That is why when I replace stuff on my car I try to make it as correct as possible. I would say 90 - 95% of my car is orginal. I feel lucky to have a Mav with a stock V8 casting, I did go through the internals to beef it up a little, but that was more to make it last longer then stock. But to say that my maverick is worth more then modified, I would disagree. Modified mavericks bring in better money from what I see. Not all, but usually because they are tastefully done. And me personally, I'm not a fan of the grabber hood. Now a boss 302 shaker hood look, or a comet gt scoop looks awesome.
Ok, here's my take. As much as we don't want to hear it, face the facts. Mavericks/Comets are grouped by most enthusiasts with the likes of Gremlins,Vegas,Pintos and the like. '70s econo cars. A few trim options do not make an econo car valuable. None of these cars are worth any more "correct" than a properly modded one. Notice I left out Dusters and Novas. Mopar and GM saw fit to actually offer hipo versions of these cars, which makes the "correct" stuff more important to those buyers. I think Mavericks/Comets are like old street rods in this respect: when modded properly they will always be worth more than a stocker. The allure to these cars are the clean lines, simplicity and most view them as a blank canvas. Now, on to modded cars. I see Hines' car as an exellent example of a "what if Ford built 'em this way" car. Even though most stuff has been changed, it uses period correct pieces to show how you should've been able to get one. Craigs car is what they call a "day 2" car. Yea, it's got all the paint dabs/chalk marks and all that jazz, but the Cragars, slapper bars, dual pipes and all are usually the first things people done to them right after buying them. As far as cars like Dennis', I think he just done it the way HE wanted while keeping the original flavor. Which is cool. They're ALL cool. Does anyone think the aformentioned cars would be nearly as cool if the owners done 'em back to # match, 100% correct? No way. Build 'em like you want. If you want original # match to mean anything at sell time, go buy a Mach 1 or RS/SS.
First time I read this, and I have to just say that if I bought a car and payed extra because the vin said it was something special over a standard model, then found out that someone had retagged a standard model with the deluxe models vin, I would feel cheated. There is no legitimate reason to change a vin tag. In the Maverick arena Grabbers, Sprints, Stallions are not worth more than the base or LDO models. So if you have a nice Maverick that is fixed up with grabber looks and modified drive-train, what is the purpose of re tagging the car, other than tricking someone who thinks it is more valuable. On a rare high end musclecars the criminality is more perceivable. Back in the 80's when you could buy a 71 cuda for a few hundred dollars, I had a 71 340 cuda. The vin number meant nothing to me. It was part of the dash pad. When I junked that car I bought a 71 barracuda with a 318. Dash pad was shot, so it got the cuda dash, and I accidentally junked the old pad. Also got hood, gilled fenders, badging, and a 440. eventually I sold it for a few hundred dollars. I know it was resold after that and I have no idea where it is now, but the thought that someone may discover that the "Real" cuda they have is in fact not a real cuda at all, but instead a retagged barracuda, makes me feel bad. It was not done intentionally or for monetary gain. Misrepresenting a car is wrong, Even if you tell a buyer it was re tagged, there is no guarantee that it will not be misrepresented in the future.
example of modded maverick... when we went to eat Sat. we had 4 mavericks parked in the parking lot. when we came out a guy was there looking at the cars. he had a question...where to get V8 motor mounts? said he has been everywhere looking and the parts stores don't list any for his car... he has a '70 Maverick. he was blown away to find out the 70s didn't come with V8s. his first responce was..."it was in it when i got it". it will be the same situation when 70-73s go to get...Disc brake parts...or any of the cars with...rear disc brakes. I'm all about some...modded Maverick...
