My friend just got some copper tubing, bent a couple of coils in it, and stuck it behind the exhaust manifold with the ends coming up to the carb. One goes on the carb with the original fitting and the other end is the fresh air from the air filter. Works great! His manifold wasn't cracked at the original air tube, so there are no exhaust leaks! :)
Save your asbestos " sock " to place back over the pipe portion that goes to your choke. It keeps the heat in the tube until it reaches the carb. ;)

I know how the line should look from the choke to the manifold, so i think I can fabricate that. But I am still in the dark of where and how the cold air tube hooks up. I have a capped hose under my air cleaner on that side of the engine, but I'm unsure of exactly where it goes. Does the air cleaner line splice into the heat tube near the exhaust manifold, or does it go to the carb somewhere. Sorry, I'm used to electric chokes so I'm still learning.

Did you have a high idle issue without that heat tube connected? Did you also have a fresh air connection too, like simple man's friend did? Trying to figure that part out now.

You can easily and cheaply make both the line that goes to the air cleaner (filtered air for the choke which comes out the bottom of the manifold and the heat tube that goes to the choke. Match the tube sizes and the fitting at the choke with your ne metal tube. Drill the old tube out with a slightly smaller drill than the diameter of the tube (it should pressin)

I found this kit too, is this a better kit? Anyone know what the big silver part is in this kit verses the other one from Dorman without it?
