has anyone had to fix a windshield leaking? my daughters 73 mav is dripping water on the floor boards. I pulled fenders off and cleaned out cowl drains , i pulled out about a coffee can of pine needles out of each side. I sealed all the seams and thought I had the water leak fixed I washed the car and found it was still leaking. after more research and standing on my head under the dash It looks like water is leaking in at base of windshield. I called local glass guy and asked him about it and he said he dident want to mess with it from past experinces with mavericks and mustangs. are they that hard to get them to stop leaking? if anyone has had that problem let me know thanks !

most headliners come out when the windshield is removed....You may get lucky by removing the trim and silicone the crack

    +1

Take a hose and run water into the cowl area, through the cowl slots below the windshield (check both sides). Then watch for leaks under the dash. If you see a leak, then your cowls have rusted through. If no leak, then good for you! It may just be the windshield.

Do a search for "cowl repair" to get some pictures of where bad cowls leak.

I've had good luck using a flow grade urethane that a glass guy gave me if the windshield is leaking. Make sure the rubber hasn't separated somewhere around the glass and it should be very clean and dry before application. The cowl leaking is more likely if the rubber looks good especially if you cleaned a bunch of forestry out of there.:tiphat:

When doing this.....get NO water on the windshield or around the windshield.

you may want to pull the heater box and clean out the top hat and box. i had one leak and it was pine straw in and above the opening for the freash air. it was wicking water through the pine straw...

thanks for all the response on that leaking windshield . I think im going to try to clean all the old sealer out around the windshield and rubber and try to reseal it . I think the cowl is ok the leak looked like it was coming form the base of windshield .

Be certain it isnt the cowl...Run some water through there. Hate to see you do all that trim removal,cleaning/scrapeing only to have the same leak afterward...Good luck!!!

suggestion...get a new seal...once you start messing with the old seal, you could make it leak more. these seals are very brittle after...39-40 years...:yup:
