I have 70 maverick 302 and im looking at lowering the front of it but im not sure whats is best and how far. The car is a race car but i didnt know it too low would be a problem. Any ideas?
I cut one coil. It dropped about 1 1/2". I had the 250 cu. 6 in it at the time. I am curious to see how it sits with the 302 in it. You can check my images to see it.
You will be adding 40 pounds if everything is stock on the 302 like the intake and exhaust. If your using an aluminum intake and tube headers on the 302 then your 250 weighs more than the V8. Stock big bumper 6 cyl springs are more spring than a small bumper V8 spring. The 6 cyl sits on top of the axle centerline whereas a V8 sits behind the axle centerline taking the weight with it.
Really depends on many factors. What kind of racing and what other changes have you or are you prepared to make?
I was told from Globle West Suspension, where I got my springs there all ready a inch lower than stock. But if I needed more that a 1/4 of a coil is 1inch of lowering.. Thats just what ive been told, I havent put them in yet to see...Hope that helped
a daily driver thats street/strip ready. i have from disc brakes off a 68 cobra jet but everything else is stock at the moment. i was thinkin a 99' 5.0 302 for EFI and economy reasons, 4.11 gears, 6 speed automatic (electronic manual). the works really.
I had a 70 that I cut 1.5 coils off of and the UCA's were only 1" from the bumpstop. I'm sure the springs were sagging, but I didn't expect it to be that dramatic. Suspension alignment becomes an issue with a suspension that low as well. I would take it a little bit at a time, or you might be replacing coils. What size tires are you running or plan to run?
right now my set is 185/r14's on the front and 205/r14 in the back. this will change soon as im going for firestone 195's all around for economy and rotation reasons. this is also temporary and will change in the not so distant future. i would like to run 16's in front and 18's in back eventually.
