Well the day arrived......Yesterday when I got home I had a very thick envolope from the loudon county codes enforcement, seems I am voilating codes by having undrivable cars out in the open. I have 20 days to clean them up or they will and charge me $2000 to do so. There was a complaint filed several months ago but nothing ever happened,,,,guess the idiot that complained didnt like it and complained again. I will have to pull the parts off of at least 3 and scrap them. Wish people would mind their own damn business.. Robert
Showing concern as a resident and business owner in town, I went and met my city code enforcer by asking questions about fences and gates. She was happy to see someone who wants to follow guidelines and just be open to conversation regarding her position . She came to my house one day because I was having a storage unit brought in to be placed in my back yard. The rule was the unit could not be more than 25% the size of the dwelling. My unit is around 35% + gable roof. She asked me to place a corner marker at each corner of where the building was going to sit. I did it and the next day there was a "Approved" permit taped to my front door.. Good luck
In the early 80's I had a similar issue with my Maverick. It sat for about 6 years beside my garage 'cause I had pulled out the engine and drivetrain and stuck them in a Pinto. Because it no longer had current registration or state inspection stickers they gave me two weeks to move the car or have it registered/inspected or face a fine because it "promoted insect and rodent infestation". I guess they figure if you have a registration sticker on the car no mouse would dare get into it...
if no one had...junk cars out in the open...there wouldn't be any complaints...then they wouldn't need a law for the Gov. to enforce...
Yep and it is full, have a 24x24 garage and it is full of parts. never can have enough space. they even took a picture of the 71 that is tagged and insured because I have a tarp over it because it leaks. I have a total of 8 cars. 4 could be stripped and gone in a couple of weeks, and I might have a place to take a couple for storage. I know most of the codes guys and I will be going down monday to have a talk, because the codes call for a commercial repair shop in a residential area, which I am not commercial. The codes also says they must be enclosed so I am working hard to clear the floors of the garages to get enough space to park one. I asked about them when I got my building permit and they said i was ok unless there was a complaint....well if it was who i think it was that complained she and her family have violated codes several times and I will do her in kind
An easy fix for me was to get a buisness liscence for my home. As long as it appeared that I had worked on them, people could complain, but no action could be taken. Cost me 25 bucks. My troubles started over an El Camino I had in my back yard coved up. No other junk was here. When I got the problem solved, I loaded the yard up with every thing I could for a few months.
TN & KY, two states I'd never have thought would have laws for this... Yet another reason to hate "government" (not) by the people, (not) for the people.
I guess I could count my blessings that my code enforcement foks sit around eating donuts all day My Maverick was able to sit outside, not to far back from the state highway that runs in front of my house, without a visit or phone call from anyone for 17 years but I was always waiting for the day someone came a knockin'
Just another reason I'm glad I live out in the country. My parts cars, when I had them, were in the back yard, but still visible from the road. Had several people stop and try to buy them, but never did anybody complain, it wouldn't have done any good. As a matter of fact, my rod truck is sitting in the back yard right now, and a Ranger I'm stripping is right behind the house.
ya, i wish i lived out of town. it sucks how everybody wants you to live how they want you to. i moved into memphis and the first night the neighbor across from me came over and told me not to park infront of her house on my side of the street because it made it difficult for her to back out of her driveway. then a week later she called the code enforcement people on me about having a china cabinet in my carport, it takes 2 people to move. so i was waiting for help.... everywhere you go it seams that you have that issue.
I live in the county and this is the code they are quoting. going down tomorrow to get the low down. Sounds like they may be considering your cars as junk. And even if not, the paragraph in red kinda sounds heavy.
