Dave, that explains a lot! Because the further I dig the more surface rust I find. I was truly shocked when I took the skin off the door and saw how bad they were.

It is my pleasure to share. I am having fun documenting this build. I hope everyone enjoys it. I am sure there are things I am doing, or going to do that some people will not like. But all in all I hope most of you like the build.

Glenn, I know you think much of this is easy but it is an eye opener for me and others I'm sure. You are doing an amazing job of documentation of many jobs I would like to try and tackle at some point. I really like what you are doing, some I would like to copy and some I have my own vision, but that is what makes each of our cars our own. I can and can't wait to see the finished project. I don't want it to be finished because it is something interesting to read and see. I'm thankful you have a dream and are able to do it and share it with us.

Ward, thank you very much for the kind words. Knowing people are watching with interest keeps me going and motivated to show updates.

I just received the new rear springs I ordered from Laurie at Espo Spring. She is very cool to deal with. I had inquired on some specifications as I wanted the springs lowered. She hooked me up. Built in 2" drop! Now I don't need to use lowering blocks.

Awesome, I didn't know they could do that, or even offered it.

Dave, I don't think it is normally offered that way. But I inquired to see if they would do it. They shipped out only three days after ordering them. And I paid roughly the same as the stock height springs.

I think my car missed the E-Coat system - must have been made on a Friday at 3:00 just before the E-Coat guy went on 2 weeks vacation

Mine too maybe!?! I had not planned on removing my cowl, but after seeing all the hidden rust everywhere I have decided that that is now Saturdays project. I would rather do it now and make sure it's mint underneath than have it come through later on.

Add that to the never ending list of things I hadn't planned on doing that I am now doing or have done. It's like they always say when building a project car: double the estimated time as well as the estimated cost.
So far so true! Although I have to admit I didn't expect this to go quickly or cheaply.

The Kansas City plant is actually in Claycomo, Missouri - it's only a few miles from my house. I've got some nice pics of both of my cars in front of the plant. I asked them if the gave tours and they said no. :( My Grabber was actually built in St Thomas, but it had more than it's share of rust. I wonder what this E-coat stuff looks like, because my car looked like it got the R-coat (rust) instead. :D

Not quite what I had planned for this weekend, but it works anyway.

So this weekend I had planned on drilling out all the spot welds and taking off the cowl to check for and repair any rust. Now that I have learned how bad some of the hidden areas are I just don't want to leave that area for chance. In order to do the cowl though everything on the front end had to come off, and that's where I got side tracked......

With the my custom made front valance in hand I realized two things, 1, I never finished welding it all together. 2, I still didn't like the way it fit the car. So, I bolted it down onto a work table and started cutting and reftting the front leading edge. Much happier with that I welded it solid as well as welding up the two square holes that were still there for the Camaro bumper bracket access.

Here is where I started the day.....

This is after all the fab work and final welding was done. Checking here one last time for fit.

Before taking things completely apart I also decided now was a good time to check the fit of the radiator.....

VERY glad that when I made that new crossmember I put that drop in it for clearance. I did it not knowing if I would need it, just to make sure. Wow, something went right the first time. That lower radiator hose would never have had clearance had I not done that.

I started taking the nose off. I am going to make a new radiator support. The green taper is where I will be able to fill in on the side of the radiator and close up the opening.

At this point I knew I was never going to get the cowl off. I hate starting something and not being able to finish it, so....

The other day I had dragged my rear bumper down from storage. Today seemed like as good a day as any to check fit. Not good. Time for a little tucking and fitting.

Here is the overhang on the passenger side.

After some cutting and welding I was able to get this:

    And now the driver side:

The bumpers are not show car tight. But for a really nice driver I am much happier with how they fit now. Now both bumpers are off the car and all brackets have been removed it is time to send them off for chrome!

    Until next week......

Truer words were never spoken! Thanks!

What parts do you want to copy Dave? I do find it challenging sometimes to do things that have never been done before. When working on cars that are 40 plus years old it can be difficult being original.

Thanks Frank!! Can't wait to see what you do to the Comet. I am sure it will be amazing.
