You shouldnt of even asked, of course they were going to say no. I would have done it and called a tribute car if anybody harassed you over it. I see themed cars all the time. Ive seen cars with the sf giants and 49er logos painted in team colors all the time... And in the "donk" scene guys take a product and run with it too. Ive seen almost every candy turned into a theme car. Whats the problem if your not going to make money off it or use it for any type of promotion?

Yeah I know, I've seen Donks with Dr.Pepper, Skittles, and others, all kinds of cars adorned with company logo's, but I wanted to be legal, if there is one person they would go after for copyright infringement, it would be me, just my luck, and it would only take one picture seen by one person to get it going, I am still building the car, just no HotWheels logo on it, of course I could go Mountain Dew, it is the proper color!!(y)

Maybe you need to find a name of your own so no one can sue - You could start a new thread called "Name Moneymaker 1's Green Maverick" - :thumbs2:

What about the outline of the logo in solid gray?

I've even seen people "mirror image" or flip the screen on videos on youtube and 'supposedly' get around the copyright. Kudos to you for trying to go legit!:tiphat:

Theres a mid 80s Toyota pickup truck around here that's hotwheels themed.. Has a massive logo on each side and a few more on it, tailgate, hood, ect..looks neat and no one had ever bothered him about it, it's been this way 5+ years. I say just do it and enjoy it.. I really don't think they will care, they just can't go ahead and say that you can use there logo's and what not due to 1 reason being you could be a psycho killer or something, they don't know... Neither do we ;)

There is a late 90's dodge lifted 4x4 pickup around here with Tonka in big block letters running around, it is a positive advertisement as far as I'm concerned but who knows, I remember a few years ago a parts business was having trouble from Ford because his name had " Mustang " in it!

I would think having the Hot Wheels logo behind the wheel is no different than having a Hot Wheels bumper sticker on the car. I did a little Googling and found this: http://www.legalzoom.com/intellectual-property-rights/trademarks/when-is-unauthorized-use-not. If there is any truth to the functional use part it sounds like you should be fine putting the logo on your car as long as you are just expressing that you like Hot Wheels and aren't trying to make people think that Mattel produced or officially sponsored your car and don't use their logo for personal financial gain. But I'm no expert in this stuff so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm liking the build, can't wait to see it with the stripes. :thumbs2:

    Interesting reading there, Thank You!
Yeah I just gotta get it running properly first, gotta move it and wash it before I can apply them, but I'm tracking down the problems ASAP.
