    Pulled the motor way to long ago. Personal stuff got in the way, and my boys (the muscle) have all moved. Now, the car and motor are on their way to the ex to do the swap. I need to make sure I send what is needed. The car came with a 200, we swapped to a 250. It has original suspension. I have G9031's ordered. I need suspension help. Here's the info on the motor, from my step-son. He built it, and had it in a mustang that was totaled.
    351w bored 10 or 30 over (can not remember which) with flat top pistons. Lunati bracket master 2 cam and lifters. ( 289 duration / 488 lift ). Edelbrock performer rpm intake with Edelbrock 750 carb. The 351 heads need to be put on to get all the performance out of the motor.(I have them) The heads have screw in studs to allow for a high lift cam and bigger valves. Crank was reground but i can not remember what it was ground to. Has an alluminum water pump. Has pertronix conversion kit in distributor. The 351 heads have bigger valves than the heads on the motor now. The heads on the motor now are off a 302. They are way to small for that motor.
    I've found many references to the shock tower work that needs done, but so far haven't found any pics or dimensions to send along. He's a welder by trade, so the cut/weld stuff won't be a problem.
    Monte Carlo Bar?
    anything else? :hmmm:

    thanks, I'll print that off for him. As long as he's going to do the swap, I want to make sure everything is there. He still has all the hard work, though.

    The 351w is the exact same dimensions outside as a 302. It will drop in with out any shock tower mods. If it rode fine with the 250 in it, a 351 with aluminum intake headers and aluminum waterpump dosn't weigh much more, so the front springs should be fine.

    I don't know how I missed that particular thread, thanks. The springs are original, so I was going to replace them anyway. I was just concerned about the difference in weight from the original (200) and the new one going in. Everything is coming out the the engine compartment (it came with ac, but it never worked, anyway) I already replaced the radiator with a Champion aluminum, so that'll stay.
    Keep the ideas coming!

    The cleveland is wider but the windsor is the same. The windsor exhaust manifolds are bigger that may be the discrepency. If you use headers or 302 manifolds a 351 will fit in a maverick with no shock tower mods. I've done it. Yeah it's hard to change the spark plugs but no harder than a stock 302. But if you've got the welding talent go ahead and do it.

    Nope, the 351W has a taller deck height which makes the engine wider also.

    it goes on a little better if you mill one side first.. THEN tilt it a little. :rofl:

    and a 351w is actually taller than the 351c by about .300.. and taller than the little 302 by a whopping 1.3 inches.

    rounded measurments are...

    302 = 8.2 deck height

    351w = 9.5 deck height

    351c = 9.2 deck height

    if you think changing headers on a 302 car is tough.. wait till your knuckles get a "feel" for the 351w. Also if you look at header fitment for the 351w in these cars.. they must be turned right off the port(compared to the 302 headers).. which should also tell you something about clearance.
