After striking out repeatedly on locating LDO side trim for the 74 I am thinking of using parts off of the 70 that I had plans to build someday.

Thinking of removing all of the side trim, side marker lights and emblems from the 74. I will use the doors and fenders off of the 70 as well as the small bumpers. I am thinking of adding a Grabber hood and rear spoiler. The car will be dark metallic blue (close to Acapulco Blue) with a white top (retaining the LDO trim).

How well do you think it will look with this combination?

Honestly I wasn't much for the LDO look, but ended up falling in love with the car. Just realizing that if I resort to parting out the 70 this may be my one shot at the Maverick that I really want.

I love the LDO trim, it just makes the car stand out from the others.

I agree, but if I cannot find the passenger side trim for a 2 door soon I will start with plan B as I don't want the car to just sit unusable in the garage.

If I can find the trim my plan is to paint the insert white to match the roof as the rubber insert I have has seen better days and is a challenge to keep white. I also thought about cutting the trim (I know) in the insert portion at the very front and rear and put the side marker lights in there ans omit/fill the factory lights. I already have the lights that will fit perfectly in the recess.

That would be preferred, but if I cannot locate suitable trim...

Agreed. I drove my 1970 Grabber, after it was painted, without sidemarkers until I found an NOS set. The trim will eventually be found. Keep the trim.

    re;side trim

    Hi Del Austin,
I have LDO trim for the 2 & 4 door car.Has the brown vinyl in it.It's only in 'ok' condition for most pieces.I believe one piece on each car was damaged.Passenger rear on the 2 dr & drivers front on the 4 dr.

While I do like the early small bumper Mavericks, your looks great with the LDO trim. I'd stick it out and find some trim. Finding parts for these cars gets disgusting at times. I was totally motivated on my car till I found the hood was bad. Trying to find a good hood has held me up and totally taken the wind out of my sails.

Looks like I will be converting to small bumpers and swapping out the 250 for a V8. I will be retaining all of the original parts for the car, but after not being able to find a lot of the parts in suitable condition I will be using parts off of my nice 70.
