I have a new set that were already on a fresh 5.0 I bought(pulled them to check quality of rebuild)... They'll be bolted back in place prob Monday or Tue & engine should be running on stand by next weekend...

Guess we'll see how they hold up...

Well I put some oil in the cylinders to see how the rings are and so far it's been holding good for about 5 days. I'm guessing that means the rings are in decent shape. I also pulled the timing cover and it looks like timing gear has been replaced and maybe chain as well, absolutely no slop at all between chain and distributor movement.
So as of now I am planning on replacing rod and main bearings, oil pump, and heads with some 66 289 heads. Will most likely also replace lifters, cam, springs, and rockers. Put it all back together and run the heck out of it and see how she does. Whats the worst that could happen?

Dangerous question to ask in here :rofl2:
With that being said, I would suggest looking at Advance Auto Parts online, they had a special on reman, crankshafts going not long ago, you could get the crankshaft, rod bearings and main bearings, also front and rear seals, and after discount codes it comes out pretty cheap, around $170.00, bearings alone would be half of that or more, sign up for the e-mail and get even more of a discount, also look for the discount code at the top of the screen.

Well, I'd replace the bearings and if you replace the cam I'd go with a mild hydraulic lifter cam and stay away form solid lifter with you press-in rocker studs on the 66 heads and use the stock rockers/pushrods.
The most you can do is grenade the motor................................IMHO
