Will the rear leaf springs interchange on all the V-8 cars? I was looking at the Cal Trac web site and the only show their split Mono Leafs for 1975 and earlier cars. I thought they were all the same. I have a 77. Kelly
I think they all interchange. Some have different shackles, but even those interchange. Maybe they think the different sized shackles mean they won't fit???
I swapped leaf springs & rearend from a 74 4 door Comet, to a 70 Maverick Grabber 2 door. It bolted right up....
Some have four leaves instead of three, but I don't know why. They will still interchange, I believe Granada ones work too.
Interesting! Seems like on a car it would be a sport or gt package, HD springs sounds trucky? Lol. Four door makes sence as they are longer and heavier bodies... hmm.
You can't go by leaf count. The factory '77 3-leaf HD spring were rated at 779 lbs. The factory '70 4-leaf HD springs was rated at 535 lbs. '71-'73 HD 4-leaf was 708 lbs. Big bumper cars with more options have a higher spring rate than a skinny bumper cars. 4-Door had a higher spring rate than most, but not all, 2-door models. According to the Master Parts Catalog, between 70-77 they were about 25+ different part numbers for springs for the Maverick. http://www.dixiemaverick.com/DMleafsprings.html
4 door cars had 4 leafs cause they were heavier. My 70 Grabber now has 4 leaf, instead of 3 leaf.... Gives it a slight rake. I like the stance now....
Thank Folks for the info. Lot's of interchange options especially if you throw in the Granada springs.
The Granada spring will put the rear end 1/8" closer to the rear bumper which will effect on the driveshaft length. The Granada is heavier than a Maverick so the springs will be stiffer.
