My wife used to get creeped out by all the lookie loos when we went anywhere in my mavs..." do you allways get strangers walking/pulling up next to you at a light to talk about your car?" Used to be her question to me when it happened...LOL...Now she just shakes her head and corrects the ones who say "Nice mustang!" or whatever they think it is that day. But, yeah...Its a rolling car show more often than not when you are cruising in a mav/comet these days...
My kids love it when they drive with me in the Comet. Lots of thumbs up and interested onlookers. It is fun for them and me.
I even got them when I drove my 72 Grabber to high school back in the early 70's. Not sure if they were postive comments though. One guy told me I looked like a christmas tree coming into the parking lot with my parking lights AND sport lamps glaring.
People get confused when we have the Impala/Caprice tail lights. Its compounded when the top is gone. I get the usual Mustang, Shelby and even Camaro. I think Im gonna remove the Maverick emblem from the grille and watch their heads tilt like a dog.
maybe that is a good reason to leave the ford lettering on the hood. couple months ago someone I know told me he saw a maverick at a shop when I drove by later it was a duster
Letter it with something so no one will have a clue... Example... One of my uncles had a '60 Edsel(strange looking car) and moved the letters so it read Sedel, even in the '60s there were many who didn't have a clue what it was...
On some days I'll get asked if my Mav is a Mustang... seriously. Sometimes I'll be good and say "No, it's a Maverick". If I'm feeling ornery, I'll say "Yea, it's a rare 4-door Mustang. Not many were produced."
I think the "F O R D" lettering on the later model Mavericks is unattractive. Personally, I like having no lettering of any kind. If people don't know what it is, 'not my problem.
And again I was waiting for a guy in his 60's to cross the crosswalk.. first he gave me the thumbs up.. I said thanks.. then the "ok" sign... I nodded again.. then as he stepped up the curb and walked away (beyond my ability to reply) he quipped (still got it, huh.. with a smiling derisive smirk... arrrg!
Although I don't drive the Maverick on the street I did pull it on the trailer up to Portland and back a couple of months ago. I had people come up beside me, take pictures of the car on the trailer, drive buy and give a thumbs up countless times.............and when I stopped for gas it always drew a crowd.
