That really sucks... I have nightmares about building my dream maverick and then having someone steal years of hard work in a couple of minutes. You just dont steal another mans tools. I hope things turn around for you.

It is rather frustrating when someone invades your space and has the audacity to steal your stuff that you have worked hard to get.

I am not to worried on what was stolen, because I am fully insured so everything will be replaced. I think the most frustrating thing is that I was home, and in bed when this happened. My daughters bed room is closes to the garage and shes my #1 concern, along with my girlfriend.

Although, I am thankful that they stayed in the garage the most gut wrenching thing is that they opened the kitchen slider and I have a handgun in the drawer next to that door and they could have done some very stupid things with it if they found it to myself or my family.

I am also relieved that I didnt wake to them in the garage because I would have more than likely have shot them, or badly injured them -- that is something that I don't want on my mind.

Regardless, its over and done -- there is nothing that I can do other than file the insurance report and buy new tools (sorta a perk lol). In the meantime, I will let the car sit for a bit and focus on my family for a few weeks.

    P.S.

Go lock your door, make sure your renters/home owners insurance is paid.

    Edit;

Carl, I will give you a call tomorrow. I appreciate you taking the time to draw that up.

Make sure you don't forget tool's from your list..my dad did this and ended up being out probably 5k extra of tools he didn't notice as they were not used in a long time..we are still replacing them to this day as we need them..if you thought that there was a screwdriver or ect on that bench or something under it..make sure you add it to the list to be safe. sucks to hear and hopefully things turn around for you. good luck with everything.

I keep them locked up or close by where I am at for that sole reason. I have them for a reason and if you loose control of them it could end with a different result than intended.

As for having to live with it I have always worried about the after affects but I will do what is necessary to protect my family. One thing I learned is that the average age of a person that is breaking into a home is 14 years of age and you really ask yourself is that really something that you want on your conscience. I have come to the conclusion that if you are in my home uninvited I will take every measure to protect my family.

I am sorry to hear about your lose but like you said it is stuff that can be replaced and most important you and your family are safe.

Geez Levi, I am sorry to hear that but glad that your family is safe and that everything will be covered. I don't envy your police chase experience either.

To add a touch of levity - If there is one thing I have learned recently it's come in the past few posts; don't break into a Mav owners house if you don't want to risk being filled with holes.

Material stuff is easily replaced. Family is not. I'd think about moving the gun to a safer location so that you have safety margin/quicker access to control any situation that may arise.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck.. but things will surely get better. :tiphat:

Sorry to hear about the break-in. Sad that someone has to take what others have worked hard for, to likely support a bad habit. They will be sold for pennies on the dollar and someone will be glad to pay it (knowing that it is stolen property). Even if caught the thief will get slightly more than a slap on the wrist.

Glad your family is safe and like you I and my dog will do what is necessary to protect my family.

I appreciate all the love and concerns :)

I never realized how much tools I have, and trying to figure out wth I had, and whats missing *headache*

About the firearms, I have several all over the house. The house is locked up like fort knox, and will never have an issue like this again! Thats for damn sure!

Have u thought abt alarm and cameras? To move all that stuff they must have brought a truck. At least a camera wud/might have got a license number. I have alarm on my service door and motion sensor and I probably don't have anywhere near the tools u lost. Just don't want in the garage I don't invite..

I worked for my father-in-law back in the 80's and, when we got to work one morning, we found the front door smashed in and my Snap On tool boxes were empty - he didn't have any garage insurance for that and frankly didn't care much about my tools - he was more upset about a stupid old bottle jack and rusty battery charger "of his" that were taken. After that I wheeled out my tool boxes and took them home. I used his tools after that until I finally left for good. Everywhere I worked from that point on, I always locked by tool boxes. I do not lock them in my garage but after hearing about your robbery, I think I will go back to locking everything up tight plus bolting all of the boxes together - they will need a crane to get these out :)

I had ADT, but just recently moved into this house and never had it installed. I had a few months left on the contract, and didnt want to resign a 3 year. I do not have cameras either. Wish I did. They obviously had enough time to do it.

Neighbors said they saw the garage open at 2am, and another saw movement in the garage at 430 but thought it was me working on the maverick. His words "I said out loud, that crazy bastard is working on his car at 430 in the morning, he must not be able to sleep" :rofl2:and he went back to bed. (his dogs woke him up)

He now feels bad that he didn't do anything, but like I said, I just moved into the neighborhood and they dont know me, nor my schedule so nothing looked out of place to them.

There was no cars around that anyone saw.

I assume u lost a lot of tools. I have a vry modest tool chest probably nothing compared to what u lost. I also have mine bolted together and chained to the concrete floor via a eyehook cemented in the ground. That what it takes in the metro Chicago area.

I have to think they did'nt walk away w/ur stuff in a shopping cart.

I do understand the neighbors are not up on ur habits and might not think u had intruders. I am guessing someone in ur neighborhood is probably the culprit or some of their associates.
The main thing, as stated by u and many others - no harm to u and family.
U might want to rethink the alarm behind this incident - not so much for ur garage - for the family's well being. Really enjoying following ur project -- hope it won't discourage frm restarting it sometime in the future..

The only thing I can think of is, they got into my back yard, and went through the garage.(foot steps in snow showed) Opened the door and waited to see if there was any reaction from me, or neighbors.

I also think after the coast was "clear" they would run in grab a few things and run out. Rinse and repeat for a few hours.

So far, I've noticed about 5k worth of stuff gone. Probably more than that -- I am thinkin 8-10k. They also went through the gf's car and stole stuff out of there. GPS, car charger, headphones, and thats what she's noticed.

I live in a very respectable neighborhood, and I do believe it was someone within the area, or a friend. Theres one entrance, and one exit.

Also, I live behind both a Washington State Patrol, but also a Sheriff so they either knew that, or got lucky.
