I can't get my maverick to start. We got it started by putting gas in the carb at first. We replaced the fuel filter and pump. Also the ignition coil. Now it cranks but won't turn over. Only place I touch wires was by the coil. I believe I wired the coil connector correctly.

Have you confirmed the coil is firing spark at the spark plug end of the wires? Can ground with a screwdriver, use an old plug, or a timing light.

are you still putting gas in the carb, have you primed the fuel line? it may be flooded.

Have this car ever ran or you just bought and trying to get it running?

    What color is your spark?
    Orange is WEAK!
    Blue is STRONG!

If you just bought car i,d start with fresh tune-up. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, point, condensor and coil.

so we had it started before. when we first got it we put gas in the carb and it ran of course dies once the gas was gone. we did that a few times. we then replaced the fuel filter and pump. We also replaced the coil and coil connector. We just bought a voltage regulator and starter solenoid from rock auto and are waiting for it to come in. Also we only have a tool set and some other tools, no circuit tester or multimeter or anything like that.

Okay, you,re trying to revive from the dead.
I would do tuneup as i suggested and verify blue spark.

Fresh fuel in tank, fuel filter, and new rubber lines at any connection.

Prime line before connecting to carb. Fill bowl with fuel through vent tube.

Did you acquired this car running or not? Knowing last time it ran would be very helpful.

At this point you're are flying blind. If engine cranks, solenoid isn't problem & you could toss regulator into street and should still start.

Troubleshoot spark, old points are 99% going to be corroded to point they are not grounding coil primary. Fix? Clean points, dozens of video on youtube. Points operate same on all vehicles, corroded points on a Chevy is no different than Ford.

Ain't no such thing as cranks but won't turn over... Turn over is cranking.

Turns over but not start, yes. Cranks but doesn't start, yes. Both are same.

When I looked up videos about cleaning points I went out to my maverick and removed the distributor cap and it looks completely different than the video I was watching. It has a gear under a thing on top that has a metal tab.

The gear thing is called a reluctor and the thing with the metal tab is the rotor...

Sorry, as others stated you have electronic, '75 was first year.

The early electronic ignition modules were famed for failure. While there is a troubleshooting procedure, by far easiest to sub another unit, if isn't currently bad, soon will be.
