Finally swapping out the '73 medium bumper on my Comet for the small and thought I would see what the difference in weight would be. Sooooo I go in the house and get the bathroom scale, much to the wife's chagrin, I step my lardo butt with both, do the math and the difference is 70.8 pounds off the front of my Comet. I never thought it would be so much. I wonder what the '74-'77 would be?

    Hello Rudy:
When I made a bumper-"Tuck" on a 75 Comet many years ago .. I weighed the two metal inserts(not the bumpers themselves) and I was surprised to find they weighed 88 pounds . That's a lot of extra weight to be hauling around.. I've since went to the Small Bumpers and Valances on all cars.

That's about 20 pounds more than I thought.
Now you're gonna have to cut a half-coil from your front springs.

My '74 front bumper w/brackets weighed in at 89 lbs. The rear was 54 without bumper guards, mounts or bolts. The small rear bumper was 16 lbs with mounts and tag light.

That's what I'm thinking, got aluminum heads, intake, radiator, and water pump too, oh yeah battery is in the trunk now. These things always snowball into more work don't they?

Yep. That is what I'm going through now. Started out with a 74 with an iron 302, big bumpers and air conditioning. Ditched a lot of iron on the engine, air, went to a R&P, battery in trunk and small bumpers. Front end is in the stratosphere with new, early 6 cylinder coil springs even after cutting out 1/2 coil.

Got it done, pretty sure a half a coil is gonna have to come out. It's noticeably higher.
