My local Pick&Pull has a 76 Granada with some kind of Dana looking axle. It had a 10 bolt cover, and a tag that said 2.75 gear (no L) had an 8 in the size space, mfg. date in 75, and WER-?. I kept trying to find info from my phone, and I dropped the tag somewhere and couldnt find it. I found conflicting info about this set up, but I am leaning towards the folks that claim this is a 8.7 that is in its own little world, and there are no available parts for it. I was briefly hoping that 8.8 guts would swap in, but that doesnt seem to be the case? Does anyone know for sure?
Well, I just did a search for 8.7 in here.......lol, all the info is already here. Seems this is the odd duck not worth messing with.
Yep that rear was first used in '67 Galaxie, had a 8.5" gear at that time, increased to 8.7" in early '70s. Only used with small blocks, AFAIK parts unavailable. I believe first 8.8" was in '83 LTD, & maybe light duty trucks.
Do you know off hand if anyone has used Ranger 8.8 s in Mav/Comets? The yard is littered with v6 rangers.
Not off top of my head. Because they generally have 3.73, I know Explorers are a popular doner... Those do require shortening of housing, most get a second "short axle" and cut one side so axles are equal length.
