[IMG] what’s up everyone, it’s the mailman here back with another FUN head twister. jeez, this one is nuts. to keep it brief: my exhaust manifold (1977 Maverick) BLEW UP on me. so, i’ve finally got another exhaust manifold from the same year. problem is, there is a hard line coming off the old manifold that even a professional shop couldn’t unscrew for me with torches and days of PB soaking. the new manifold does not have this line. just a hole.

so. with the possibility of putting the old line onto the new manifold gone, i either have to find that exact line or somehow frankenstein it on there, like cut it off and weld it to something else, i don’t know.

anyway. i know this is called a “gulp valve” and that’s all i know. does anyone have ANY idea where to get this? much love.

Gulp valve huh? New one on me...

It's the feed from smog pump into exhaust manifold. Part of CA emissions, though some other applications may have used it. If you were anywhere else, I'd say plug the opening on replacement manifold & remove smog pump.

ah, okay. yes I’m in CA, you’re saying don’t remove smog pump because of regulations, correct? but it’s not dangerous to plug the hole and remove the pump?

at least that’s what the mechanic said when he tried to remove the bolt. said he recognized it as a gulp valve.

Nope, back in '70s/'80s, first thing most of us did.

I've never heard of an exhaust manifold blowing up.
Doesn't California require emission testing on anything newer than '75? If so, you'll probably need that setup...

I would imagine with enough heat, that would unthread and would be able to remove it.
