:hmmm:Ok guys. as you know, I am fixing up the Mav I gave to my son for his birthday last year. He greaduates HS in December so the car has to be ready for paint. Couple of quick questions.

    1. What rear spoilers look good other than the ducktail that was OE?

    2. Being relatively new to the Denver area, anyone know of any bone yards that might have Mav stuff?

I am thinking of pulling something and making it work but just need to know what you guys think and have learned. Pics would be great. Thanks.

I have a spoiler that I will not be using on my mav. Let me know if you want a pic of it.

I like the Mach 1 style also. you can even buy ones that look like it but are adjustable.:2cents:

I would like to see a duck tail that is larger than the stock grabber one but not too ricey. Something like the early camaros had. I had one on my mustang II also that was the perfect size. I think somebody here actually made a camaro tail work, but I dont think I ever saw pics of it.

I've always wondered what a Mustang II spoiler would look like on a Mav. It's pretty much the same thing but it has more height. :)

    Photoshop anyone?

I think 1 to 1.5 inches higher would look pretty good. The part that is the problem are the quarter panel extentions. If new good quality ones can be remanufactured out of fiberglass, that would be the ticket.

I saw a 70 that the guy had used the california special mustang pieces to form a taller one, dont know what all that entailed.

With the Maverick, the ducktail is the only oem spoiler available.
Beyond that, a 69-73 Stang wing can work. You would have to study the measurements though, to pick the one that gave the look you want... The 69-70 Stangs had a narrower spoiler, but the pedestals are further apart than later models. The 71-73 spoilers had a wider spoiler, but the pedestals were closer together than early wings. I think the pedestals are taller on the 69-70s. They had a built in ducktail to stand above on those models, plus the rear deck was not as flat. The 71-73s had a flat trunk panel and no ducktail, so the spoiler pedestals were shorter. These spoilers can be bought at a good price as a repop.
After that, I am sure the possibilities are endless...
There are some Mavs here with oddball wings on them. One is similar to a GrandAm wing, the other I can only guess. What they both have in common is they don't look good IMO.
To me it would either be a ducktail or 71,2,3 Wing.
    Good luck
    Dave

I have the 3 piece factory spoiler. But, I put the Mach 1 spoiler on the car. I do switch them around on occasion...Look up the thread "In the paint shop". I have pictures there...

    Is anyone running both?

69-70 fastback Stangs all have a ducktail that is formed into the trunk and quarter extentions. None came without it, yet many have the wing too.

I suppose I agree with you after a little thought.
Could be why the wing looks so much better to me on the 71-73s...
However, I don't like it so much on the Mav, I think because the way the tail of the car is rounded down.
I wouldn't mind seeing a wing on the back of a Grabber. Then I would know for sure one way or the other.
    Dave
