There is a thread on here somewhere about the difference in the US Mavericks vs Brazil. The grill was a factory option down there and they also stayed small bumper the whole time. There is a Variety of other things like factory deleted side marker lights, integrated dash glove box, unique console, 4 speed, etc... very cool cars.

On a older car I doubt the Feds would get into certifying the car.

Just recently on Crown Vic Forums a member in Saudi Arabia checked into bringing a '0-something Gulf spec(no emissions, catalytic converter etc) into US. It had to meet all laws pertaining to US models. Which means the computer swapped and all US emissions would have to be added.

The Mav’s at 0.41, 1.10 and what appears to be a Mav station wagon at 6.46 only have rear marker lights ABOVE the body line, all others have neither front or rear markers.
I’m too infatuated with the absence of marker lights to notice some of the other things you mentioned.

Seems like very few of those cars had automatics.

A member on this site was really close to buying a Maverick station wagon out of Brazil but some problems came up with the seller and method of payment

More than likely they didn't want to pay the premium for a imported part. I dunno if Ford established a automatic transmission factory in Brazil before the '80s. Last Mavericks were '79.

I don't know what the laws are here, but when I lived in Colorado, the law there said if the vehicle is shorter than 25 feet, side marker lights are not required. A Maverick is like 15 or 16 feet long.

The whole issue is Federal compliance, why vehicles starting '68 have side marker lights. Likely some states don't enforce the requirements but I can promise everyone, trying to get a foreign built, non US spec compliant vehicle through registration, you're going to jump through more hoops than you can imagine.

I assume you're referring to importing a car from a foreign country, because nobody checks your side marker lights or bumpers when you go to register an American car at the DMV.

Did I miss something? I thought we were talking about foreign built, non US spec Mavericks.

Yes you did, it all started with me saying that I was going to delete the side marker lights like on the Brazilian Mavericks.
I have a non-legal mod (plate mounting location) on one of my motorcycles, the officer that stopped me for speeding (93 in a 70 zone) said nothing about it.
He did however ask me several times if I had a speedometer, which is not required in Michigan.

The OP was talking about shaving his marker lights.

Oh well, at least I don't have to wait another eight or nine months to screw up a otherwise perfect year. ;)

    You didn't screw anything up.
There were 2 topics being discussed in this thread. Probably my fault for going off the original topic.
