I may have an opportunity to get a set of Boss 302 heads. Has anyone placed one in a Maverick or Comet without shaving the towers and if so is there hood clearance with the factory dual plane? My preference if possible would be to have as factory a look as possible.

It fits. definitely won't look " factory", but I wouldn't care about that...

I’ve seen pictures of a Maverick with a Boss 302, so yes they fit but it’s not a simple bolt on swap for a stock 302.

Look up "Clevor engine" to see what all is involved
    Here's a short copy/paste:

What do you need to build a Clevor engine?
    • Unique pistons are necessary to clear the canted valves and match the Windsor deck height. An aftermarket intake manifold is also needed. For the cooling system to function properly, you must plug the water passages in the front and rear of each cylinder head’s deck because the ports do not properly align with the Windsor block.
The intake valves and ports are huge on Boss 302 heads. A better combination is to use 351 2V Cleveland heads.
A lot of time, work, and money and the result isn't any better than what you'd get with a modern pair of AFR or Twisted Wedge heads that just bolt on.

If using real Boss 302 heads, they should bolt on regular 302, or even 289 block. Water passages & Boss deck height are same as std production 302/289. New pistons will be necessary. Real bug is Boss 302 uses 289 length(5.155 vs 5.090) rods so pin location in Boss 302 pistons is same as 289(I think). 302 Boss intake should fit without issue.

BTW I've seen a Boss 351 in a '72 Maverick with stock shock towers. It did have a set of custom headers that had to be assembled with engine in place.

Thanks for the info guys. No doubt AFR\TFS heads would provide better fitment and possibly performance, but this is not strictly about performance, it is also something of an old school cool factor. My main concern is the height difference of the heads and intake, whether they will fit under hood or not.

With a quick google search I found this…

With a low profile air filter I’d think it would fit under the hood.

I am planning to raise the piston top into the open chamber of some 2v heads on a 302. With the right combo of grinding, 289 rods, head milling, and piston compression height, I think I can choose anything between 9.5:1 and 10.8:1. I think I'll pass on 10.8 though. Still gathering stuff, and still debating options.
