ok I'm starting to put my front suspension back in and I feel like a prat. But how do you slip on the coil spring pad on the top of the coil Is there a secret too it
Made some progress took me most of the afternoon but I've got one side rebuild Next I got to figure left and right caliper.
It hard to see in the pic, but it looks like you have the spring perch on 180* off. Mine had the spring's end toward the back. I don't know if this makes any difference in the way the spring works or not.
Looking good! To tell left or right caliper, check the bleeder. With the caliper installed, the bleeder must be in the UP position in order to bleed air.
Thanks yeh i need to recompress so I can rotate around a little. Anyone know a easy way to rotate it without taking it back off
I must be missing something. I've tried on and off for 2 weeks now and i still cannot get these lovely lovely coil springs to either go in or turn round
Completely uncompress the spring, turn them to how they should face, recompress, lower into perch (I had to pry mine a little while lowering to get them in perfect).
did you make sure that the upper/top coil was properly seated in the top of the shock tower? there is a ringed lip which the ID of the coil seats in, also make sure the bottom of the spring end is seated right up against the stop of the spring perch. if you can not rotate the spring with suspension still "free hanging" and shock out, you may have to put spring compressor back on and then position/rotate spring to seat properly........ too bad I did not read this thread earlier, I would have suggested installing upper control arm grease fittings. these are low profiled 90 degree fittings that can be installed on the ends of the control arm adjusting nuts. they still can be install with arm already in place, but it would have been easier with them out. carry Scott Drake p/n: 374714-SK around $20 for kit. better than torching holes in shock towers to install grease fittings....
Grease fitting are a great idea if you can fit them, I could not get mine to clear. I dont understand why anyone uses a torch in the first place.
did you try those Scott Drake grease fittings? the height of these are only 1/4" so there should be plenty of space to install, the regular ones that are available are too wide which is why they will not fit. I will try to post pictures of the Scott Drake fittings.......before they came out with these, I had to fabricate/machine my own low profile fittings, this was back in the late 80's! AutoKrafters also carries these SD fittings, so you may want to look into this......
I've been looking for these for 3 days to post here...:Handshake I had them on mine and they went right in...
