Recently made a crappy video of the mav running, uploaded to youtube.
Maybe someone can diagnose the problems I am having, mostly backfires under load.

Is you distributor adjusted all the way to one side to get it to idle like that? or is the dizzy adjusted kind of in the middle of the range?
I ask because I have put a dizzy in one tooth off and had to adjust it all the way to one side to get it to run before I figured out what I did wrong in a 1978 400M

yeah, what he said above^. Could be ignition timing related.

hate to say it.. but I'd be checking cylinder pressure on any motor of mine that sounded like that.

As mentioned, backfire under load is almost always a late timing issue(assuming no component failure)...

What firing order does that cam use???

20160221_144050.jpg I played hell trying to find an original maverick grille emblem, so I got inventive.

I've got it listed as OBO, it's just a starting point for negotiations...
I'll let it go to any member of this forum for $100
I really just want it gone.

It is always best when trying to sell something here, to list it in the "for sale" forum. More people will see it.

I'm not trying to sell it here. I'm trying to sell it on craigs list.
I just mentioned it here because it was in context of the conversation.
If I try to sell stuff on this forum, people usually need it shipped somewhere.
    I only deal locally.

So, I went ahead with the taurus fan swap, as suggested and supported by mavdog.

Here is a slideshow of the swap

Don't mind the the tree crappings on the paint, clayed that damage off later.

That fan looks really good. What years of Taurus has that style of fan?
    Are Mercury Sables the same?
