I’ve been trying to find a louver big enough to fit my 1970 Maverick. I know they don’t make one so I knew I would have to fabricate any one I got. I wanted to share this so others would know... the 2020 Challenger louver is probably as close as you can get...the top is just slightly smaller, the top to bottom measurement Is perfect and the bottom is about 4” or so to long. I drilled out the rivets on the side rails, measured the width, cut the louver slats with metal shears, recent the ends that go into the side rails, re-drilled holes and riveted it. Almost a perfect fit. I was lucky to find this louver on FB marketplace for $50! I had to drive 2 1/2 hours each way to get it but hey, not a bad deal... see picks ( it still needs a little finishing but I’m happy with it so far)
It does hit just in the middle when it gets about 2/3s open. I’m going to adjust the bottom slat so it sits lower so it might work.
Thanks. I’m still working on making them fit better. My son collects and sells the old gas pumps, signs, etc... if you really want an old gas pump, let me know what you’re looking for and he can definitely find it if he doesn’t have it.
I was able to lower the last slat and the trunk cleared. With that said, I ended up trashing the whole thing... the paint and the louver looked really good until I put it on the car....the slats were slightly off (unevenly spaced) due to all the bends not being perfect so I didn’t want to use it. It was harder than I thought to get each one bent exactly the same. I would like to put a rear louver on the car but I guess it’s not going to happen unless I get ambitious again.
Thank you for the response - nothing more frustrating than making process and running into a wall. Hopefully a suitable option for these cars will become available in the future.
