Way too many wires, and it clutters my engine bay up.

If you have Duraspark now, then no.

My engine shouldn't need it but the multiple sparks helped my idle. I like the rev limiter on the 6AL.

Petronix Ignitor III. Best upgrade for the money I've ever bought. About $100, it all fits under the cap with no additional wires visible and provides multispark discharge and a rev limiter. You will need a points distributor to put it in though, I don't think they make one that goes in a duraspark unit.

I also use the pertronix. Really made idle and start better.

The only issue I have is that i just bought an MSD coil. So I would have to put in a ballast resisitor.

But still....way less wires. I am actually embarrassed to open the hood because of the clutter of wires.

I guess I could sell the 6A and the coil, and swap in a SuperStock coil. That setup worked for me for years, until i got the 6A.

The Duraspark is, in fact, a "good" factory electronic ignition system. But, it just can't produce the current that the MSD, Mallory, etc. ignition systems produce, no matter which coil you choose to run. Especially, if you like to turn your engine past 5,000 rpm. These systems are beneficial, even on stock engines. Here is an example. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2006/12/DuraSpark/index.php

It is, however, your car to do with as you please.

This was my solution to the wire clutter-

Basically I relocated the solenoid to the rear of the drivers side shock tower and cut apart the factory wiring harness to relocate everything as I saw fit. All the front light wiring is run under the fender, all wiring from the engine (sending units, alternator, dizzy, tach etc.. is run through a loom over the intake nestled up against the drivers side valve cover. All visible wiring is left to the rear corner near the master cylinder. It was actually even neater until I had to add the fan relay, I may end up rearranging and building a box for that plus future relays.

I was thinking about a plastic battery box and mount everything inside it in stock battery location

I also considered that, but my future engine will require that space. If I was doing it I was going to use an aluminum one and Radioshack "project enclosures" to tidy everything up.

Mine is also mounted under the dash as well. Since you have it you'd be going backwards to remove it.

I think you'd be going backwards to remove the MSD system, especially for a Pertronix. There's ways to deal with the wiring, such as routing through grommets to the back side of the panel you have the box attached to. You could even get real fancy and put the grommet hole underneath the box so all that's apparent is the wires curving around under the box.

    Why?
