electronic ignition on 250????

    Can you put an electronic ignition on a 250??? If so what are the advantages and how much would it cost???

    All that is needed is to get a dist. and control box and coil from a 77 Mav and wire it up.
    You should see improved starting and running over the point setup.

    Go to Ford Six and click on the Tech link. There's a page on how to do that with a variety of modules.

    Jack likes the Ford electronic ignition swap, but I went the stealth route. Pertronix sells an electronic module that replaces the points and condenser, so you keep everything original. Now that they released the Pertronix (improved unit), the original Pertronix sells for 50 or 60 bucks. Tom

    The pertronix is great for the later engines, but the early pre-68 distributors have no mechanical advance, hence the reason for my duraspark recommendation.

    The new unit is the Pertronix II. There's a thread on the Ford Six website now about this. Included is discussion on replacement coils that are better than the stock unit.

    Agreed. It's supposed to be a big improvement in performance over the original Pertronix, but again, in an old Mustang or Falcon, not the best choice because the distributor itself is lacking. You Maverick guys have it so easy!;)
