Well...I guess the time has come for all good OE parts to fail. 1977 Maverick with 250I6 and auto transmission. Recently had the A/C serviced and the next day she overheated. Only does it when it has been under A/C load for 30 minutes or more. Trying to verify that the number on the tag is the part number I should be cross referencing. The number is: YP 04636 7 D50H 2875 A2B 09-76 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mark
I am trying to figure out which of the numbers from the first two lines of the compressor tag is the OE part number. Yes, I am going to do a diagnostic on the whole system however, I have that sinking feeling that a new compressor and clutch is in the near future. Rock Auto has four different compressors and I want to make sure I buy the right one if it comes to that.
The A/C compressor is likely the least of your worries. If it's binding enough to cause overheating engine, performance would suffer dramatically. The basic part number for compressor is not 2875, that's apparently a bearing in the clutch assembly. Compressor number is 19703. Master Parts lists only one replacement, D2AZ-19703-B. Likely were different compressors used, apparently the D2 replaced all.
when you said ..." had the A/C serviced '"... did they flush the complete system? remove the A/C belt and see if anything changes.
71 gold, the a/c was evacuated and then recharged and checked for leaks. Today I flushed the entire cooling system and am more than a little confused. The specs I looked at says it should have 9.7 quarts of coolant. When I drained it I got 6 quarts. I filled it with distilled water, only held 4 quarts. I started the engine and ran the heater on high to get distilled water in the heater core, after 20 minute I shut it off and drained the system. 5 quarts came out this time. Next I put radiator cleaner/flush and another gallon of distilled water, it wouldn't hold any more. Ran it at highway speed for 15 minutes with the heater on high again and then ran it for another 15 minutes with the a/c on high. Got it back home, shut everything down and it overheated. Also, when running the a/c it blows cold out of the dash vent but as soon as I accelerate it switches to the floor vents, let off of the accelerator and it blows out of the dash vents. Thoughts? Oh yeah, heater core not leaking, nothing from the water pump weep hole, hoses aren't collapsing. Factory fan is NOT a clutch fan.
Problem with the vacuum reserve tank or lines, common issue... You are saying it boils over when cut off?? It's common for temp to rise during heat soak. Sounds like weak radiator cap.
can you please tell me where the vacuum reserve tank is on a 250 straight six? Or maybe post a picture? Thanks
Vacuum reserve tank (looks like soup can, black) was located below the blue charcoal tank on passenger side just in front of firewall........ David
Not everything needs to have a new part thrown at it. Previous owner of my Fairlane fell victim to that procedure. After a new carb and spark plug wires, both with issues were installed, he was lost. Remove tank and vacuum test, often one way valve(s) or leaking vacuum lines are at fault.
It looks like I have a vacuum reserve canister about the size of a baseball and then I am not sure what is mounted above it.
That piece above it is the same as the blue charcoal canister in David's picture. I am not sure if either of those parts in your picture are actual Maverick/Comet parts. Someone else may be able to confirm.
