Okay, I just got my maverick. Quick question. The guy I bought it from had to start it using a pair if needle nose pliers and touching two solenoid nuts? I can't figure out the proper wiring! Does anyone have a diagram that's basic? My battery keeps dying, the cables run hot and I need this to pull it in and out of my garage. View attachment 114542
Yeah I've seen that online, but damn I'm a novice and need something simple. Think I'll post a YouTube video
... I was stationed at Bragg and my Mom lived in Sanford... that link that Jeff posted is your best bet getting it straightened out...back to basics. you have no idea what a previous owner has tried to fix...keep us posted on your progress. Frank
Regardless, the original diagrams are far more complex than they could have been, back when I was gainfully employed I serviced TV that schematics were simpler to follow... If one isn't versed on electrical circuits those drawings are definitely trial by fire...
Do you have a basic idea of how it works? If it hasnt been butchered up you may need an ignition switch.
Here you go, simplified wiring diagram from a 1976 Ford #@%&*^%... AFAIK there was never one of these diagrams issued for Maverick/Comet, but once you've seen one 1970s column switch start circuit, you've seen them all(OK excepting 1974 with seat belt interlock)... Ford almost always used same color wiring for a given circuit, this wiring is same as every other Ford of the '70s I've seem... The Red/Light Blue wire at top center has power only while cranking, and then(if automatic) to feeds through the neutral safety switch, from there connects directly to small post of solenoid nearest battery... Either misadjusted Ign sw position or defective/mis adj neutral start switch are the most common issues with this circuit... If there is no power at red/lt blue wire in start position, problem is in the column...
