Aparently there are different ignition cylinders through the years. I changed over to a floor shift column in my 72 and I don't know what year the new column came out of but the ignition cylinder I have doesn't fit. Can anybody tell me what year cylinder I need? Here's a picture of the column: http://robbinsvillehotrods.com/simplemachinesforum/MGalleryItem.php?id=5993

Aside from the 70 (I can't speak for that one) there are only two different cylinders. I forget the cutoff, but I think it changed in 74. I say this because I believe I used a 73 cylinder in my 71 column. I just confirmed this on Advance Auto Part's website, assuming their info is correct.

If you want a used set-up, I would have a set with matching door locks. Email me DIRECTLY (see below) if I can help.

Thanks Matt, I assume 70 is the one with the key on the dash? And assuming you're correct, do I have an early or late column in mine?

Craig, I would just need the ignition cylinder, I can key it myself. Are the door and trunk cylinders the same for all years?

you should be able to tell the years of the column you have by the plug for the turn signals that came with it.

The plug for the 70-72(excluding the 69.5 with the dash mounted keyswitch) uses a different plug then the 1973 and up.

Knowing this where your car is a 72 and the factory plug from the column plugs directly into your cars wiring harness, then your column is a 70-72 column and that is what you need to find a lock cylinder for.

If the factory turn signal plug does not match your wiring harness then you have the later style steering column and you need to find a keyswitch for the 73 and up column. The plugs are completely different, they wont even attempt to go together, different style pins and everything so it is completely obvious if it is the wrong year turn signal plug.

Markso, I bought and installed a new turn signal switch so I don't know what it had originally.

I remember just recently reading a thread on here that described which style of notch went to what year. It was within the last month I could swear.

69.5's had the dash mounted cylinder. 70''s had a column mounted switch. Mine has that.

The doors are all the same. The trunks are all the same. The door and trunk keys are different from each other.

So this is all good information. I still need to know what style or year cylinder I need for this column though.
