I'm new to the forum and found this thread for projects, so I thought I'd start posting some of the pictures from my project. I purchased a 71 Comet (Arizona car) in September 2007. I found the car unexpectedly (I wasn't looking for a classic car) at Houghton Lake when I was staying at my brother's cottage. First car I ever owned (see the attached picture) was a 71 Comet GT. When I saw this car, all of the memories came flooding back, and I had to have the car. See the attached picture from March 1973 that shows the intended result. We are going to turn the car into a 71 Comet GT clone. The exterior will look just like the picture. The interior will be a custom job. I'll start posting pictures every couple of days to show the progress over the last two years.
It has been fun and frustrating sometimes. My brother is doing most of the work and has been fitting my car in between his other projects. Just wish I could find that money tree and finish the project and start enjoying some cruisin'.
Your original Comet in the old picture looks like the same color scheme as mine ... Looks like the Grey Gold interior, too. Looks like a pretty solid car you are working with ... now if you can just get rid of that Maverick hood ... ugh .... (you probably haven't seen it yet, but there is a bit of a Comet vs Mav rivalry here, and they have us outnumber 4 to 1 .... we Comet guys need to stick together ... ) I look forward to seeing how your car progresses.
I havent junked three but I'm close. Im at two junk mavericks and I am planning on keeping the last two mavs, but they are in really good shape.
yeah the three i junked were in pretty sad shape. i guess the more door wasn't too bad but it was a more door.
Fast Forward One Year Here are pictures from September 2008. Car sat in my garage for a year while I searched and ordered needed parts from the Internet. I took as much off the car that I could with my limited supply of tools (and knowledge); Brains and expertise behind this restoration will be my brother Dan. I will just supply the checkbook and manual labor. In September 2008 moved the car out to his place and the official restoration began, squeezing me in between his other projects. Body Work Begins Sept 2008 Started the minor body work in September 2008. Luckily there wasn't any major body work or rust to worry about. Just the nicks and dings on a 40 year old car. [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]
Burnout Video Of My Comet Testing out the trans. Enjoy this short video of my brother testing out the trans on my Comet. All of the burnout marks on the driveway are from various test runs of the Comet. We knew the engine was on it's last legs and were going to rebuild it so we thought we would have some fun with the car. Those marks are still there two years later! http://picasaweb.google.com/jimalex8367/71CometBurnOut#5249218996352604450
