hello all, hoping i can make use of this forum in the future. this is my 1st time ever using any forums. my very first car was a 77 maverick when i was 14 yrs old. i sold it couple yrs later to my high school buddy. nearly 20 yrs later, i asked same buddy if i could buy the car back, and he gave me the car instead. So i then gifted it to my 1st born, my 10 yr old daughter, as her 1st car. its current condition is my profile pic. The car is still in all my high school glory of what i thought was cool back then. skull and crossbones tag on front, dice door locks, 8 ball valve stem caps. even has my old license tag on it still. my buddy pulled the inline 6 and dropped a 360 in it for shits n giggles with his dad when they got it. the inline 6 and the 360 are long gone. i have a 302 from a 95 mustang thats been carb swapped, yet still pushing over 300 hp. im planning on grabbing a t5 manual transmission to put behind it and thats the plans so far. i also want to update the front suspension, brakes all around, and rear end to handle the new power. were gonna leave the patina as is. i remember rubbing the blue paint in hs and it would dye your hands blue. so a wet sand and matte clear are in order as well. we havent decided the style were gonna bring this maverick back to life just yet, options on the table are bracket drag, gasser drag, street cruiser, or touring race car. i think my daughters leaning to bracket drag, which then we would skip the t5 and go for an auto, but we're still exploring all ooptions. i hope to use everyone and anyones knowledge to help along the jourey to make this maverick a more exciting of a 1st car than it was for me.
Welcome to the forum from northeast Ohio! I like your daughter's choice of bracket car, my Hotrock is a good example.
It's a good looking car, I'm sure down the line you'll have some insight on how I can accomplish some goals. Can't wait to bounce ideas
my daughter did decide she wants to do bracket drag racing, but she wants the car to be gasser style, she doesnt want the raised up super high look, but she does like the idea of an exposed straight axle in the front and the headers visible if possible. shes really liking this green maverick, but wants to bring in some of the looks from these other cars as well. we might have to make it a little higher than the green maverick to incorporate all the styling cues shes wanting. time will tell
thanks, the child has decided to do gasser style look and wants to do some bracket drag racing, ive been looking up some parts here and there and keeping a list for when we really start to dive in. she wants a straight front axle, so im been scouring the interwebs looking for conversion kits, or youtube videos for anyone whos done it before, im not a mechanic, but def know my way around a toolbox.
Welcome from Oregon. I have only been to the drags once....but am going to get a trac loc and do it again! As far as I'm concerned, it is FUN!!!!
