slight problem, my new tci tranny has no reverse, engine just free revs, checked the trans fluid it wasn't low or burnt, the shifter linkage seems to be adjusted correctly, any ideas? i have all of the foward gears.

Last one I saw do that, had the wrong sealing ring in the bottom groove on the pump support. There are three and all look alike but one was a hair smaller diameter and was letting pressure by pass it instead of going to the reverse clutch pack. TCI may have just had one break or something when assembling. Very unusual for them but mistakes do happen. Need to put a pressure gauge in the port in the case and check it in reverse position. Good tranny shop should be able to do that on a lift without removing the trans. They can check all other gear positions too, as well as the band adjustment etc. Pressure is leaking by somewhere instead of applying the clutch piston against the clutch pack etc. Just a guess on my part though, amature c4 rebuilder.

I realize you've checked and re-checked the linkage, however, mine was a PITA to get it exactly right on. It might be worth adjusting the linkage both ways to rule that out.

I hope it's something that simple. Good luck and keep us posted.

i'm going to try to put the car physically into the reverse with the shifter unhooked and see it moves then.

alright tinkered after work on it, using process of elimination valve body is the only thing left that would cause reverse not to engage, i have 1st gear, dosen't slip, holds it fine, i have 2nd, it downshifts perfect, drives foward
perfectly fine but backwords won't even move, so i'm going to see if TCI willing to ship me out a new valve body, since it'll be alot easier then swapping transes. when the car is running (my shifter cable not attached to trans) i can hear the shifter clic into reverse position, but can't feel the trans do anything, no engagement nothing, so i figure one of the balls in the valve body got stuck somewhere

    hope that all made sense.

When you are in manual low, and let off the gas, does the tranny freewheel? If it does, the rear band and or servo may be the problem.
