Can anyone who has done the late model 5.0 starter swap post some details and pics?
I have a late model starter with the 'deep snout'. This means the gear is more exposed. Is this correct to mount to a C4?

    Thanks.

AFAIK all C4 use same long nose starter... The shorts were only used on the small block manual trans in middish '60s...

I have a late PMGR on my Comet, simple to wire just use second diagram...

Thanks for the reply. I had seen that diagram but I wanted some confirmed results. I also read something about removing the metal tab that connects the 2 mounting points on the starter. Is that what you did? It said without removing it the starter would stay engaged with the switch on. Thanks for the reply.

If you wire the starter with the 2 wires as shown in fig 2, separate for the + to the starter and the trigger wire to the solenoid, you will have no trouble.

The trouble comes in when only one wire is used to power the mini starter (the jumper bar you refer to). The starter can stay engaged and become a back feeding mini generator which can burn out your electronics.

Swap is all done and seems to be just fine. I didn't realize how weak that old style 20lb starter had gotten. I thought it was where I had the timing so high. New lighter gear reduction starter spins the heck out of it. Thanks for the help guys.

Switching to the PMGR starter is one of the best mods you can make, draws less current and spins engine quicker than the old field type, plus is much lighter... Win, Win, Win...

Another plus is they seem to last forever.. I've never had one fail and have owned four Grand Marquis plus a Marauder that used them(two were in the 130-150K mi range when sold)... My beater '96 F-150 has 184K miles and still has it's original as well... Yeah, I do have a used spare on hand just in case...

Sounds like that's what I need. Will it bolt up to a 91 5.0 ho efi / C4 pan fill?
    My starter is huge
