A few months ago there was a thread on this subject and someone said hoses from 71-72 Mavs fit. I took the hoses off my 70 yesterday and noticed that the end that attaches to the wheel cylinder has a banjo-type fitting. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has used the later hoses.

1- Does the later hose screw into the wheel cylinder screw where the banjo fitting goes, or do you have to install later wheel cylinders?

2- Do you have to move the mounting point (where the hard line attaches to the rubbber line? It doesn't seem like the later hoses are long enough.

    Thanks. Tom

p.s. Does anyone have a set of new 70 front hoses sitting around gathering dust?

In case I didn't tell you Tom....those wheel cylinders on the front were brand new.

The brake hose does screw into the brake cylinder. Yes a 71-73 mav part does work. But you will need a longer hose than the normal one. I already done this and it works. If you need the part number for it let me know.

    Hi Mike.

Please post the part number and who makes the part. Thanks.

    HI Tom

I found it. I had to hunt for the part number but I got it.

The brake hose is made by Ray Besties
    Part number is BH-24280

Like I said earlier this hose is longer than the standard ones. You do not need the clips at the end of the metal brake line just let it hang.

I hope this helps. Let me know what happens.

    Thanks Mike.

I may have another solution. A local truck garage has a custom hose shop. I took the 70 hoses over there and they said they could re-do them using the old ends. I'll report on the results.

    UPDATE:

Picked up the brake hoses. The guy was able to use the existing fittings and just replace the hoses. It's kinda of hard to explain, but here's how he did it on the end that mounts against the frame:

There are two parts, a metal bracket (mounts to the frame) and a brass block that mounts to the metal bracket. The hard line threads into one end the brass block and the rubber hose is permanently affixed to the other end of the brass block. He cut the rubber hose end off, then drilled and tapped the brass block to accept a tapered fitting. Cost $65.00 for both sides. I figured that was a bargain, since the hoses are no longer made. Then I found a brand new set on eBay.

Pictures would make this easier to understand. I'll try to attach one.

    Tom
