Alright, so in preperation for my tax return, i need to figure out some parts to buy. First up is front springs. I want handling better than stock, but the front end is going to remain largely stock (totaly rebuilt, of course). What rates do you recomend? It's a 75 LDO w/ 5.0 t-5. Any input from those who have personal experience is especialy appreciated.
If your stock springs are in good condition, leave them as is and put on a larger diameter sway bar with teflon hardware. If you do want to change springs, consult a spring shop and give them the wire size and height of your stock springs and then they can tell you a bit stiffer replacement.
IMO since you said i’d just put a set of aftermarkets in them like one of these obviously with the right application. http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/home.php?cat=2128 now depending on how weak your stock ones are they may raise the car. personally i like my cars low so I cut mine there is more to life then going in a straight line…. as old guy said a sway bar will work nice as well as polyurethane parts to replace the stock rubber hardware.
Thanks for the replys guys. Does anyone know what the factory spring rate would be for a 302 ac car? This one is a 6 cyl conversion, and i was under the impression that i wouldn't like the stock springs w/ my 5.0. I should have been more clear about that.
Some of the guys here have kept the springs that were on the 6 cylinder and liked the way it looked with the lower front.
I understand that it will sit low and have a nice agressive stance with 6 cyl springs, but it dont want to bottom out on every bump i hit, and as there are a number of unimproved roads i must travel on to get anywhere this is a real concern. I wont mind springs that are a little stiff, and if i want a lower ride height i can always cut the springs. From what I have heard so for I should just get a set of stock springs for a 302 ac car and call it good. How's this sound?
i think some where on here some people said the 6cyl coils are the same as the 8cyl ones. i can confirm that on my 75 6cyl car there was no differance in spring the stock spring and the v8 ones. i'm telling you just put the aftermarket one in cut a coil run a set of kybs you will be much happier. here some more good reading http://www.maverickman.com/Suspension.html well at least "i" think it is good.
That might be a bit biased. But I agree. It is good reading, and I learned alot through your experience. Thank you.
