i just intalled after market power steering bracket and alternator on my motor power steering appears to run off just the crank and alternator appears to have to run on both the crank and water pump pulley when i put water pump pulley on it sits way to far back ...can anyone tell me whats going on here
P/S & water pump driven by inner groove on lower pulley, alternator by center or first. You have wrong pulley(offset), appears to be 6cyl.
Looks like the PS pulley is on backwards and that non factory bracket has the pump too far forward. The correct SBF brackets are easy to find, you need the bracket that attaches to the pump and head, and pump to WP adjustment bracket. You can see them both in Tom's picture.
Right pulley wrong p/s bracket. also the alternator pulley is wrong, should be single groove. dont forget the spacer behind the p/s pump also! back this horse cart up! you need the bracket on the pump itself also! thats why it looked so off! bracket d1za-3c511-ab pump bracket D0AZ-3A732-C Couldn't locate the part number for the spacer.
Supposedly the spacer has a base number of xxxxx but I didn't find it in Master Parts. EDIT Actually base part number is 3D600. For '70/'71 & '72 Mustang/Maverick 302 should be this one. Spacer is 9/16" thick. https://www.npdlink.com/product/spacer-power-steering-pump-mounting/148924?backurl=search/products?search_terms=c8sz-3d600-a&top_parent=0&year= I'm glad this came up, my Comet has stack of washers inside large heat shrink.
