I know that this is an old thread but I am trying to find out if the C4 I have is off a 200 inline 6cyl or V8, the car is a 70 and had the 200 in it, but the person I bought it from was doing a v8 swap using a 74 donor car which he took the front disk from and rear-end and but on the 70.... here are the pics of the tranny...…. thanks for any help with this
How many teeth does the flexplate have? If I am not mistaken; 148 tooth for 170, 200. 153 tooth for 250 and 302.
Low mount starter V8 or 250 6cyl. 200 had starter two thirds up bell. The 4K104752, ID as from a '74 model. Other than bell, externally V8 and any six cyl are same. Though there are differences between 1969 & 1970 models.
That was 147 tooth. The Mustang II 302 also used this. The 153 should be 157 tooth, that's a case fill C4. Trucks got a 164 tooth pan fill HD C4.
If there's a metal tag on it somewhere that would give you more info on it but at this point especially if there's no tag it's been rebuilt or something and all bets are off.
Who can say it hasn't been rebuilt and tag reinstalled? The 4K104752 stamp means trans was installed by Kansas City assembly into a 1974 model. Being KC built Maverick, not much doubt it was original transmission from the '74 Maverick parts car. The large reuilders usually cut this stamp.
