Does anyone know if a 15x8 weld draglite with a 5.5 inch backspace will fit right on my maverick or do I need a 4.5 inch backspace? Thanks Steve
Lets say I kept my 8inch rear, did that poor mans posi like mentioned somewhere else in here and wanted a nice size tire, what would be the best backspace on say an 8 or nine inch wheel where no rubbage would be on the inner tire and it wouldnt stick out the fender lip like some old school Joe Dirt hotrod. If I stay with 15 inch wheels Id like to run a 275/60 or so tire.
I recently had mine measured for 17X9.5's. I ended up ordering them with 4.25 backspacing and will be mounting 275/40-17's or 285/40-17's if I can get them to fit.
i say 3-1/2 is the best.. you won't have to guess if it will fit. however 4 would be my next choice. i guess your gonna run spacers eh? buy the size of the rim sounds like a late model wheel. so i would presume it would fit with the spacers. i can see the 275 fitting but i doubt the 285 will fit with the 4.25 without one. of course i'm presuming you haven't relocated the leafsprings if you get it to fit great!
I had 15x8 weld draglites on mine, used 4" backspacing,,,5" would have been rubbing the leaf spring with most tires. Dan
my current wheels have 3.5 backspacing, and i wouldn't want any less clearance to the spring and upper wheelhouse than they give. i have about 1 inch of clearance and when i tried less in the past, i would see occasional rub marks on my inner tires. tires tend to balloon and "move around" on turns, bumps and potholes which can use up that inch.
i ran 15x8 5 1/2 bs 28 10.5 mt drag slicks on a 9'' it is close this year went to a 15x10 wheel same bs 5 1/2 it gave me 1'' more tire to spring space with the same tire 28x10.5 MT wheels were draglites
hmm got new rims for mine might have a problem there 15x8 with 4.5 back spacing..have 26 x 10.5-15 Et streets
dan your right! you can fit all sorts of stuff under a maverick but sometimes i think when a person asks about what they can fit people say all sorts of things. but don't you think it confuses them? some say well i have this or that and changed this or that. but it comes down to who evers asking the question, justs wants a safe answer. right? will this fit? i think we would need to presume its stock (suspention, no air shocks, tubs, narrowed rearend or a rear out of another car, etc. ) and and they are putting new wheels on the car and want to know what will fit.. then from their they will have to figure out other factors like if they want to lower the car, maybe it has weak leafsprings or whatever. sorry... i think i'm just bored and need to post something but i see this questions posting all the time.. infact i was even one of them that posted about my 18s and tire size for them and wanted an answer... i think only one person out of the many told me what i wanted to hear. the rest just confused me.. then again i'm lame too. but thats why i have the tire and rim size dealo on my webstie so people can just figure it out from there.
Yuppers Derrick, you are right. Also, alot of the information lended here is from memory. I know my memory is not always right. So we can give bad info when we are trying to help each other. Guess that is the old car game. I find that in the end, I listen to advice, make a plan, work the plan, and it still doesnt work. Go to plan B, modify 13 other things, assemble, then break something, go buy new part, cant find wrench I needed to install new part, go in house, play on puter, drink 2 beers, go to sleep, next day seems everything works like it is supposed to. So, in the end I am certain that it takes 2 beers and a good nites sleep to fix things. Dan
