Won’t start without brakes and stalling

    My 73 comet doesnt do anything when I turn the key until I hit the brakes then it starts right up.it also stalls when I put it in drive without hitting the gas. It also used to stall whenever I was driving normally but I replaced spark plugs and alt seemed to fix it but I will have to test it.

    Sounds like you have a wire from the key to the starter solenoid with insulation rubbed through and it shorts against the pedal until you depress it. No guarantees on that, but it's the first thing I'd think about.

    Assuming the dash lights up but there is a no crank condition, I'd look at the neutral safety switch located at base of steering column.

    Apparently someone had just knocked some wiring loose when they removed the radio

    thats what I was thinking. My GF 2016 wont start till you step on the break.

    no sorry but there’s only so many wires under the dash. I tried to recreate it but couldn’t .
