Since my car has some of that woodgrain on the doorpanels, I have always thought a wood steering wheel would look nice. Anyone have any advice or sources for me? Thanks Dan
Stering wheels Dan There is a guy on EBAY that sometimes has Avaniti wheels for sale once in a while. They have a real nice wood rim with brushed or polished chrome spokes. He also has all the various mounting kits for different cars along with custom horn buttons. Wheels were going for around $250.00 or so. Pricey put nice, and they are a larger diameter than the grant wheels are. I think he had them noted as being 280mm to 290 mm. I think, going off memory which has not been hitting on all cylinders lately. Hope this helps. Allen Small PS: now that I am thinking aout it maybe it was 180mm to 190mm?
Will a Mustang ('65-'66) wood look wheel fit? Hey the reason the OEM's quit putting them on new cars is that they splinter when you are in an accident and that tears up your hands badly. Add no shoulder belt and you have splinters in your face.
Dan; I put a 15" Mustang wheel on my car. It is a hard rubber black wheel, but the Mustang resto houses sell the Grant mahogany wheel for about $100, and it has the horn kit with it, at least mine did. No mods, just install. Looks good, and if you do not have power steering, the big wheel makes the steering a lot easier to live with. Good luck! Earl
Thanks to all. Earl, I dont have power steering and was wanting to keep with the 15" wheel. I had wondered about the Mustang wheels and was thinking of putting a stallion logo in the center. Probably be the way I go. Thanks again guys. Dan
I picked up a wood wheel at Columbus last year and put it in my 4 door. It looks great. The Ford adaptor kits for Grant wheels and similar are easily available. Just watch the wires for the horn connection off the adaptor. Mine were grounding out. I insulated them with thin heat shrink tubing and it corrected the problem. The horn wiring on these adaptors is fairly thin gauge wire.
I have had a Lecarra.... ...on order for quite some time. It is the replica of the Shelby wheel of '65. I think it is the Mark V or III. Go to Lecarra.com to see wheels. Seth
