That's a lot of grinding! I'm always amazed at the pile of stuff on the floor, I swept up around my car today...

There was just as much stuff in my hair and clothes as there was on the floor. I looked like a coal miner when I came in from the garage. Sweeping is a constant activity in my garage.

Thanks Glenn. Once I have the engine compartment stripped, the cowl cover will come off so I can paint inside it and everything else with POR-15. After that, I'll be able to weld the cowl cover on and never ever have to deal with it again (hopefully).

Since you're trying to strip everything it looks like, why not have the car soda blasted? Its pretty cheap, and its all done, hits every crack and corner. Would save you tons of hours, and materials stripping off the paint.

    Let the Blasting Begin!!

After struggling with paint removal via the wire wheel and grinder, I consulted with a local Mustang expert and he informed me that the black paint on my engine compartment was likely lacquer. He told me to take lacquer thinner and wipe the paint off with it, then blast the spots that were harder to get to.

Happily, it worked out pretty good. I pushed the car out today and spent an hour or so wiping and blasting. The firewall is pretty much done and the area rear of the passenger's side shock tower is 90% done. A couple of sunny Saturdays and a note from my wife allowing me to skip taking the kids to dance class, and I'll be in good shape!:D

Thanks Dave. The snow was higher than the bottom of those windows behind the car a week ago. It got up above 0*C (32*F for those of you below the 49th parallel) for two days last week. The longer the snow stays, the longer I have before I REALLY start to panic about not having the car done for summer...:yup:

I've been "trying" to keep at it, but you know...:D

When are you going to stop buying parts cars (Comets) and get a car to build?? j/k :rofl2:

Makes me tired just looking at your pictures and remembering how many times I had to blow my nose when grinding all that "stuff" in my car. Primer will make it look much better. A lot of work but well worth it when finished.

    Still Blasting...

I managed to squeeze a few hours in with my car today. I am still blasting the engine compartment, but I did get some more done.

That driver corner always seems to be a spot that gets the least attention.. And it looks like a good sunny day to get things done. Got cold here so AGAIN my Comet waits.

    Thanks!

No soda, just using "00" sand at about 90 psi. Going to have to get a bit rougher ( maybe some "01") when I go underneath and in the wheel wells.
