    Yes, Black was an option for Comet in 71, but was the ford paint code. Also, I just noticed a big mistake on the report. After looking at some other Marti reports folks have posted, the 8A - should be buckets, not bench. Am I confused or is Mr. Marti confused? - Matt

    I would look at the floor and see if it has holes for bucket seats drilled.

    Craig, I went out and check and it does have the bucket seat bracing and extra bracing on the top of the floor pan for the bucket seats to sit along with the holes. The folks at Marti are looking into the issue now, because they said it is setup in their database to equate the 8A trim code to the bench seat. I provided some examples and a reference to http://home.comcast.net/~petebre/maverick/decode/1971.html page which seems to point to the other report examples being correct in that 8A is for bucket seats.

    Sounds like you car had bucket seats from the factory....or.....a bench seat was but in at the factory by mistake. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

    Usually 1A is the basic black bench seat(cloth, 2A vinyl, etc) and the number will increase with upscale material and/or bucket seats, no doubt in my mind 8A could be black bucket... These codes are in the shop manuals(ot of town or I'd look at my set)... Should be able to do a little slewthing to see if there are witness marks on the inner bolt holes that indicate there were buckets in it at one time...
