Time to disassemble the steering column. Get your hammer out and go to work by separating the main shaft from the column.

This is what the shaft looks like when it's out.

Then separate the inner tube from the outerwith the same tool you used for the main shaft. The tape is there to let me know where the bracket lined up. I only had to remove and inch from the outer tube then I reassembled the column. Also don't forget to trim the little arm from the inner tube. It will interfere with the install.

Took me a while to get this sucker put on against the rag joint. Two people should knock it out fairly quick.

    Hi 7D2 :
Been noticing your posts . We also are converting a 72 MAVERICK to the Borg Setup and we have experienced some " clearance " issues with rag-joints and firewall clearances. Although " your" rag-joint flange looks a little shorter than 'OURS' .. Is it a Borgenson Item ?? Just curious . We (C.A.M.E.O.) have been exchanging information with Everett (MoJo) in Illinois who is also converting his COMET with the same items. We've posted some photos showing some of the completed work on the unit WE are converting if you're interested. We think your Comet is
coming along nicely and appreciate the work you've performed thus far. Lemmeno if we can be of any help along these lines. cameocarclub@yahoo.com

My box is not a Borg unit, a company in southern CA is producing the boxes ABS power brakes - http://www.abspowerbrake.com

I've had no real issues besides getting the correct pitman arm. But that appears to be resolved now. I could have clearanced the firewall to make it an easier install but it is not needed. I'm available at aguilar_w @yahoo.com as well but if you respond to this thread or my pitman arm thread I can respond with information that might help.

    Hi 7D2 :
Glad to hear you've got your unit installed. Us too ! We made a provision to add more clearance at the firewall
area to accommodate the rag-joint . Looks like "your" adapter is a bit shorter and a small amount of room sometimes makes a huge difference . We've also made provisions to add more 'caster' and we're waiting until the engine is in place and then a good 'alignment' and we'll see how it handles then. We've noticed that a lot of people are unhappy with the 'stock' antiquated steering set-up by Ford . By the way .. Nice work on your car.

Thanks for the kind words, there is a local guy that I runs the ABS box and has had great success with it as he tracks the car in national events. His shop specializes in early mustangs but they can build anything. A friend of mine had them set him maverick up. https://www.mikemaierinc.com

If I had to do it again I'd use his products due to customer service and he races what he sells.

    Looks good!

Now you just need to get you a silver paint marker and paint the flat surfaces that outline the left and right side of the grille and the flat surfaces that outline the turn signals.

Have you driven the car since installing the steering setup conversion? The box looks exactly like the one on my car.
I am interested to see what in the way of alignment specs you have; if you have had it aligned? I have and still have issue at speeds over 60 w/ the steering sensitivity/wandering. As long as, I stay below that - no issue. I hve all new suspension, steering parts and tires. I ordered a shim kit to install in the GM pump, hopefully to cure this problem.
Cometized "Chip", has a similiar setup, but he runs a serpentine setup w/ later model pump -- say's his car handles great. Maybe his pump doesn't need the shim setup -- pressure probably lower than earlier gen. pump.

I see you have little different setup, also. Later Ford pump and serp. belt system. Still interested in the steering question.

I haven't had it out yet, I have an ABS brake integrated PS box with a KRC aluminum pump. Should be a couple weeks until i do.
