Collin, Jeff and I got ours from...Dakota Digital... http://www.dakotadigital.com/index....ct_id=224/category_id=69/mode=prod/prd224.htm
I didn't cut the cluster plug off...I spliced the wires so I can undo if later down the road I wanted to go back to factory cluster.
I cut the plug off then ran the wires to the control box. another good thing about these gauges...no speedo cable, just a wire running down to the transmission...
I assume that they work off of the dimmer switch as well for brightness, they sure look right at home in the cluster
it has it's own dimmer switch on the control box...the light switch is not in play with these gauges. the stock wiring in the car, it's like it was wired for digital gauges from the factory. other functions I like...... Performance Meters ·0- 60 MPH Timer (0- 100 kmh) ·1/4 mile time ·1/4 mile end speed (trap speed) ·High speed recall ·High RPM recall they reset automatically on each restart of the car.
all of this takes longer to say/read than to do... I used an old cluster. pic #1...old cluster bezel. pic #2...cleaned and sanded. pic #3...painted in silver. pic #4...pinstriped edge. pic #5...painted (rustoleum 7777 satin black) w/pinstripe removed. pic #6... done.
Jeff and Collin have a new cluster lens in theirs. I took the option for the old hazed lens and cut out the openings you need the lens, it's like a spacer when reassembling the cluster. pic #1...parts to be used from old cluster. pic #2...old lens. pic #3...prepped to mark for cutting out. pic #4...marked for cutout. pic #5...lens openings cut out with scroll saw.
post 10/11 are just prepping the cluster for looks. after gutting the cluster of all it's bulbs, gauges and printed circuit ... the light bulb shields need to be removed. ...that's all the mods for the cluster housing...
Thanks Frank for the info and pics I have been saving a cluster just for digital gauges one day and after seeing yours (and Jeff's and Collin's) there is no doubt in my mind as to what ones to get.
notice I didn't post anything about the wiring of the control box.... the gauges plug into the box and the wiring from the stock cluster plug is simple. pic below...(view in original location) the only wires not hooked up are the turn signals and reverse lights... I have installed two sets of these gauges so that means anyone can do it...LOL
Very informative pictures and it turned out great. Do you have any pics showing how the gauges were actually mounted to the plastic housing?
