Only adjustment is centering the control valve...

All that's required is tightening nut till it begins to snug up, then back off ΒΌ turn... There is a notation in shop manual to be sure nut actually turns on bolt the full amount, will be maybe 1/32" rotation before nut loosens... A inch pound figure is given to hopefully prevent the ham fisted from over tightening, possibly bending/breaking the stop pin...

When I did my first one my work bench looked like the exploded view in shop manual... Each part in exact order...

Thanks for the information! Just went out to get a inch wrench. I noticed in the manual it says that I need "silicone grease/ coax-19553-a" to lubricate seals, does this have another name? I went to the auto parts store and they looked at me like I was making it up.

The you could use the clearish silicone grease used on spark plug boots... I used chassis grease..

The C0AX-19553-A grease is a ford part number that dates back to 1960... No doubt far better grease available today...

Can I use this chassis grease that I already have on on the seals?

I have the same grease in my gun...

For seals & O rings(areas in fluid path) you only need a very small amount, many will use P/S, transmission fluid etc... For sleeve, ball stud, etc you can be far more liberal with application of grease... Fluid does not enter into this area(at least not supposed to)...

My auto parts store doesn't carry hoses so I have to order online. Do you know any specifics of the hoses? I see a bunch online but not sure what specifically I'm searching for or how many of each type of hose?

Unfortunately, I ran into a same issue. The kit I bought includes four of those small thick black rings. I know for sure two of them fit around the spool area with a hard plastic washer inside of them. However, where do the other two belong?

Let me add that I referred to the manual diagram and another I found online. The youtube videos I watched also didn't show them installing these pieces either.

Use the pair that best fit the ends of spool valve, apparently some of the late units use a different size...

I have just about finished my project but seem to have run into one last problem. I managed to rebuild the control valve/get the new lines. I am in the process of installing it and I have threaded it on to same spot where I marked it, however now I can't seem to hook on the two small hoses nor can I move the new ball stud into the pitman arm hole. I'm doing this car on jacks, do I need to lift the car higher into the air to reinstall?

I inst complete system tie rod to tie rod on both my Comet and Fairlane... The distance between cylinder and valve should be same as prior... The uppermost hose on cylinder connects to upper port on valve... If you cross them the steering will cycle wildly back & forth...

What's not centered with ball stud? Just angle or is it too far to one side?

I made a small paint mark on each line to ensure I made no mistakes rehooking them, and the new hoses compared to the old ones seem identical. I think the problem is just that I need to hook the ball stud to the pitman arm first.

It seems to be to far to one side. In the only video reference I found, he sort of adjusts it up into the port (but his car is fully suspended overhead) but mine doesnt seem to move that far or to be able to reach the ball stud.

Not sure if these pictures will do any help (only ones I snapped) the pictures show it way closer than it actually is. But the pitman hole is closer to the center of the car and the ball stud is closer to the wheel.

Just move steering wheel till arm lines up, really can't be off center if fit's back together...
