Hi, I'm Chad and we just bought a 73 Maverick as a father/son project. Harley will be getting this temps in another month or so. We are not planning a major restore or anything, it's just something for the two of us to fiddle around with together while he's in High School. Safety is first on the list. We're planning on upgrading the brakes and replacing the seat belts and windshield (it's cracked). The we can work on some of the "cooler" things Harley wants to do after that.

Thanks for having this forum. I'm sure it will be a great resource for us.

Welcome, nice Maverick you have there.
A 74 Maverick was my first car, Harley will love his Maverick and enjoy spending time working on it with you.

What’s the current specs and what “cooler things” are in the plans for it?

You can see my latest acquisition here.

    BBMS18, Thanks for the welcome.

    It's a 250 with a 3 speed.

Harley's "cooler" wants so far are
    a spoiler,
new paint, new wheels and a V8. We'll have to see what money and time actually allows.

Harley’s wants are really not that extrem, although the factory spoilers are hard to find and expensive the 69-73 mustang spoilers are a popular choice & available through aftermarket.
Wheels are easy to come by as the Mavericks use the widely available 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.
302/5.0 V8s are plentiful and are a bolt in as the 250 i6 shares the same small block bolt pattern.
Paint can be expensive if you just drop it off at a shop, but with some hard work he can do the pant himself with satisfactory results.

Thanks again. Harley is definitely on board to try and tackle the prep and paint on our own.

That’s great, a lot of kids nowadays just want to go down to the dealer and pick out a new car when they get there license.
There’s a wealth of knowledge and experience here, I’m not a professional at anything but I’ve done it ALL at one time or another.
So if you & Harley have any questions just ask, and someone will be along to give you answers.

I went and looked at the car a few years ago when it was for sale in Indiana.

I took a closer look at the title and, yes, the previous owner (prior to the person we bought it from) was from Centerville IN. How long ago had you looked at it? Is there any thing you remember about it? Any particular reason that you didn't buy it, that I might have overlooked?
