Hello all, my story starts a lifetime ago in the early 80’s.....
As a young boy I purchased my first car, a 74 Maverick 200ci 3spd with the Graber hood. I did a LOT of rust repair and painted it red with a black stripe, although I put a lot of miles on it I never installed the planed V8 before selling it.

Present day, my friend bought a beautiful 71 Comet GT with a 302 & 5spd, that bastard got me longing for another Maverick
A couple of weeks ago he calls me Saturday morning and asked if I was planning on stopping out to his place to bring my car dolly because he had just purchased two more Comets!

I pulled up into the driveway and there sits one of the cleanest 74 Comet’s I’ve seen since the 70’s. It took me less than a hour to purchase it from him for $600 starting yet another project.

The plan, small bumper conversion along with a 5.0 & 5spd out of a 94 Mustang GT. Today I bought bumpers & brackets, front filler panel, valances and quarter extnentions off a 72 Maverick, I’m still trying to hammer out a deal on the V8 & trans.
Planning on trading the Maverick front bumper and filler panel for a small Comet front bumper.

My first question for the guru’s here is, are the Mavericks front valance the same as the Comet?

Thanks in advance for all the help with my project.

    Welcome to the forum!

Did the '71 Comet GT your friend buy happen to be Pastel Blue (very light blue, almost white)?

    Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, he said the paint is “powder blue” it looks white in the sun but a very light blue when in the garage under fluorescent lights.

He bought that car from Craig Akins down in SC. That is a very nice car! If I didn't have two kids in college that car would be in my garage.

I agree with the Comet being in my garage, if the car was what it shows in pics and description it was very well bought.

BTW welcome to your youth hood again BBMS18 and to the forum

I don’t know the gentleman’s name but the car did come out of SC. The car is not perfect but it is very nice, I’m still waiting for a ride in it.

I’m conflicted... if I buy a Maverick hood I’ll have all the parts to do a small bumper Mav front, If I can trade the Mav front bumper & filler panel for a good small Comet bumper the car will be all Comet.
I guess it’ll have to wait until I make it down to the MaverickComet corral in Indiana the end of the month to see what he has available.

I vote keep it a Comet if you find the stuff for small bumper, if you cant get the small bumper Comet stuff then make it a Comarick you can always change it back if stuff is found later. You will be much happier with small bumper

You're fortunate to find such a CLEAN Comet ! The Hood looks to be in Great conditions.. The front bumper may prove to be more difficult to locate. Don't be discouraged.. they are OUT THERE .... you just have to find the right
person . I've had several Comets and they are quite unique in many ways as I'm sure you'll discover very soon ..
: ) ... Lemmeno if I can help in the parts department.. I have ' some ' Comet pieces which I would part with..
